The US$14.99 Complete Edition Upgrade is easiest to justify if you want both the new Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and Most Wanted survival mode. Its cosmetics and unlocks may add appeal, but the free October patch features are not part of the paid-content case: Sony says they arrive for all owners. Sony’s announcement describes what the upgrade includes, but does not establish expansion playtime or provide hands-on quality evidence.
What the $14.99 upgrade includes
Sony announced the Complete Edition Upgrade for existing owners at US$14.99. The official US PlayStation Store lists it as a PS5 add-on. The main new paid additions are:
- Echoes of Sekigahara: a story expansion exploring Atsu’s past, set in a new area of Ezo and featuring a new weapon type.
- Most Wanted: a combat survival mode built around enemy waves and boss encounters, with new weapons, cosmetics, and playable characters to unlock.
The Complete Edition also includes content that had previously been part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, plus the Charm of Hokkyokusei. The US Store lists an in-game mask, Snake Armor, Digital Deluxe Armor Dye, Digital Deluxe Horse & Saddle, Sword Kit, Traveler’s Maps (Early Unlock), and Charm of Amaterasu among the extras. Sony’s announcement also names the Charm of Hokkyokusei. These are listed inclusions, not a promise that each item offers the same practical or cosmetic value to every player.

What is free, and what is paid?
Sony said the October 1, 2026 patch would bring Beauty of Yōtei mode, new Watanabe Mode tracks, and quality-of-life and accessibility additions to existing owners, whether or not they purchase the upgrade. The listed features include keeping one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats, plus a new high-contrast accessibility option. Sony’s August 14 update corrected its earlier announcement: the new Watanabe Mode tracks are part of the free patch, not exclusive to Complete Edition purchasers.
So, do not count those patch features as reasons to pay US$14.99. Sony announced patch 2.0 availability for October 1 globally, with October 2 availability in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Those are announced dates; the sources do not independently confirm rollout completion in every territory.

Who is most likely to find the price fair?
There is no source-based objective quality rating or playtime figure for the expansion. A practical decision is to value the two new paid experiences according to your own interest, then treat the listed extras as a bonus rather than assuming cosmetics or early unlocks are equivalent to a story expansion or a new mode.
| Buyer situation | How to think about the upgrade |
|---|---|
| You want both the new story and survival mode | The US$14.99 price covers both named new additions, alongside the listed extras. |
| You want only one of the two new additions | Consider whether that one addition is enough value for you at the full upgrade price. Sony’s cited sources do not establish separate prices for either component. |
| You mainly want free-patch features | Do not buy the upgrade for Beauty of Yōtei, the new Watanabe Mode tracks, or the cited quality-of-life additions; Sony said these come to owners through the free patch. |
| You already bought Digital Deluxe through PlayStation Store | Sony announced a 20% discount on the upgrade’s preorder price for qualifying Digital Deluxe buyers. That was a preorder offer, not evidence of a current discount or eligibility through other purchase channels. |
| You are interested mostly in cosmetics or unlocks | Decide based on your own interest in the listed items; the official listing establishes inclusion, not equal value or necessity. |
The Sakai Armor early-unlock promotion applied only to purchases by September 30, 2026. That deadline has passed as of October 4, 2026, so it should not be treated as an active offer.

Online access and what the listing does—and does not—say
The US Store listing states, “PS Plus required for online play.” Keep that requirement scoped to online play, including online Legends activity; the cited listing does not say a PS Plus subscription is required for all single-player upgrade content. Check your territory’s current PlayStation Store details for regional availability and access terms.
The upgrade is downloadable PS5 content sold through PlayStation Store. A physical base-game disc does not itself provide this digital upgrade, and unrelated accessories, guides, or collectibles do not unlock it. PlayStation Support describes physical items in the separate Collector’s Edition, which are not part of buying or using this upgrade: Collector’s Edition content details.
