What accessories do you need for GameChat?
| What you want to do | What you need | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Voice chat | The Switch 2’s built-in microphone | No separate microphone is required. Nintendo says the mic adjusts to its surroundings and filters background noise and game audio. Nintendo’s GameChat guide and FAQ |
| Video chat | A compatible USB camera | Nintendo names the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 Camera as an option. Other USB cameras may work, but Nintendo does not guarantee compatibility. Nintendo’s GameChat guide and FAQ |
| Listen to chat through a Bluetooth headset | A Bluetooth headset | You can hear other people, but Bluetooth microphone input is not supported for GameChat. Nintendo Support: Bluetooth audio |
For voice chat, start with the built-in microphone
Nintendo says the Switch 2’s built-in microphone lets players start chatting without buying a separate mic. It adjusts to the surroundings and automatically filters background noise and game audio. That makes a headset optional for listening comfort, not a requirement for speaking in GameChat. Nintendo’s GameChat guide and FAQ
For video chat, choose a compatible USB camera
You only need a camera if you want to appear on video. Nintendo’s named accessory is the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which connects by USB-C and has a privacy shutter. Nintendo Switch 2 Camera product page
An existing or third-party USB camera is a possible alternative, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Nintendo does not publish a guaranteed compatibility list or a comparative camera-quality ranking in the cited guidance, so don’t assume a particular webcam will work based on its brand or connector alone. Use the console’s Test USB Camera feature before relying on one. Nintendo’s GameChat guide and FAQ

Nintendo describes both connection methods in its GameChat guide. Nintendo’s GameChat guide and FAQ

- Connect the USB camera directly to the console if it uses USB-C, or connect a standard USB camera through the dock.
- Open System Settings and choose Test USB Camera.
- Confirm that the console recognizes the camera before planning to use it for GameChat video.
