You can also join through an invitation or, when it is featured, from the main-menu listing or the Featured Series marker at Legion Square. Slasher jobs may rotate in and out of featured availability, so check the live job list if you cannot find one.
How to find a Slasher job
- Open the pause menu.
- Select Online → Jobs → Play Job → Rockstar Created → Adversary Modes.
- Choose an available Slasher job and join it. You can also use a direct invitation, a featured entry on the main menu, or the Featured Series marker at Legion Square when one is available.
If Slasher is missing from the list, check Featured Series and Rockstar’s current seasonal announcement. Rockstar’s October 2026 announcement describes a seasonal promotion with 3X GTA$ and RP in all Slasher modes in the Featured Series, including the Ramius submarine variation. Featured content changes, so confirm what is playable in-game. The earlier Ramius variation was listed in Rockstar’s Title Update 1.71 notes for October 16–November 6, 2025; that dated window does not establish permanent availability.
The named locations are match settings, not places you need to visit in Freemode. Select the job from the menu to launch a match.
How Slasher works
Slasher is an asymmetric Adversary Mode for 2–8 players: one player is the Slasher and the others are the Hunted. Matches take place in dim or dark environments, and the objective changes after the opening hunt.

At the start
- Slasher: Starts with a Pump Shotgun fitted with a flashlight and 40 shells, plus a Machete. The Slasher has three minutes to find the Hunted. In the Ramius Submarine variation, the melee weapon is a Pipe Wrench instead.
- Hunted: Start with flashlights and must survive. Using a flashlight can make it easier to see, but can also give away your position.
After three minutes
If Hunted players are still alive, they receive flashlights-equipped shotguns with 80 shells and can turn the hunt around. The match guide describes hosts as able to set one to four rounds to win, with two as the default. Any player level can join, according to the guide.
Tips for each side
Playing as Hunted
- Move carefully and listen: the Slasher’s footsteps and actions can give away their location.
- Use your flashlight when you need visibility, but consider whether the light will expose you.
- Use the map and sound cues to make informed choices about where to move or hide.
Playing as the Slasher
- Use the shotgun’s flashlight to scan dark areas, but do not assume every Hunted player will be visible at once.
- Use the opening three minutes to search methodically; the Hunted can hear your footsteps and actions.
Rockstar’s Adversary Modes tips also describe the Slasher’s opening shotgun and three-minute search. A stereo headset is optional, but can help you make use of audio cues; it is not required to play.

Rockstar introduced Slasher in its 2015 Halloween Surprise announcement, describing a dark hunt for up to eight players. The Ramius variation adds a submarine setting and uses a Pipe Wrench for the Slasher’s melee weapon instead of the Machete.
