Yes: CD PROJEKT RED says existing The Witcher 3 saves will work in Remastered, but your skills will reset because the skill system has been overhauled. To move a save between platforms, use cross-progression with the same CD PROJEKT RED account on both devices. Modded saves need the same set of mods enabled on each platform, and modded saves disable console trophies and achievements.
Will your existing Witcher 3 save work in Remastered?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered FAQ says existing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saves are compatible. There is one gameplay change to prepare for: because the skill system has been overhauled, skills reset when you continue the save. Achievements already earned in the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine carry over.
How to transfer a save between platforms
Cross-progression uses cloud-uploaded saves linked to your CD PROJEKT RED account. The source and destination games must be connected to the same account. The studio’s cross-progression guide says the latest saves upload automatically once the feature is set up; its PlayStation transfer guide gives specific instructions for moving from PS4 to PS5.
- Update the source game. Follow the current in-game prompts and support instructions for your platform. The general guide says to use the latest patch; for a PS4-to-PS5 transfer, the PlayStation guide specifies Patch 4.04 on PS4.
- Connect the source game. Open My Rewards and connect the game to your CD PROJEKT RED account. If prompted, enable cross-progression; the guide says it is on by default after linking.
- Create a new save. Make a fresh save on the source platform and check that it displays the cloud icon, indicating it has uploaded.
- Connect the destination game. Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account on the other platform.
- Load the uploaded save. Open Load Game on the destination platform and select the cloud save.
For Nintendo Switch, the support guide notes that the older GOG/Steam cloud-save integration is not a substitute for cross-progression: carrying saves over requires the feature introduced in update 4.04.

What to know before transferring a modded save
The in-game Mods menu is powered by mod.io. Using it requires a CD PROJEKT RED account connected to mod.io; subscriptions sync through that account. However, console support is selective: unsupported mods are ignored on consoles. Check each mod’s page for the Available on consoles tag before relying on it on a console.
- Match the enabled mod set. CD PROJEKT RED says the same set of mods must be enabled on both platforms to maintain cross-progression compatibility. A mod missing from, or incompatible with, the destination platform can stop the save from loading correctly.
- Expect console achievement restrictions. Trophies and achievements are disabled for modded save files on consoles. A cog icon marks a modded save.
- Plan for offline access. A modded save can be opened offline only if the mods it needs are already installed. Reconnecting is required to install a missing mod.
The support page also says XML, script, and w3strings mods will not work upon release of the update it describes unless they are updated, and points creators to REDkit for updating them. It recommends creating script mods through REDkit and says this gives them the best chance of approval on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. The page does not identify a patch number for those statements, so check the current mod guidance before relying on them.

Which platforms are listed for Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It says existing Nintendo Switch owners can claim the Switch 2 version free once it is released, except in Russia and Belarus. The FAQ does not state a release date or price.
The support page describes the Remastered platform list, but does not provide a complete purchase or upgrade entitlement matrix by platform and edition. In particular, it does not establish that buying a particular PS5 edition automatically grants a specific Remastered upgrade.

What changes for the Complete Edition?
A separate CD PROJEKT RED Complete Edition FAQ describes a change in which Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included with the base game, replacing the standalone base-game storefront offering with the Complete Edition. Under the terms described there, saves remain compatible, cross-progression continues to work, and achievements and trophies are unaffected. The FAQ says PS4 and Xbox One remain unchanged apart from the two expansions becoming available free. Check the relevant storefront and region for the terms that apply to your copy.
