A clear case is not automatically UV-protective, and even documented UV-filtering glazing does not make prolonged bright light harmless. Choose a gentle cleaning method only after checking the figure’s materials and maker’s care instructions.
Choose a safe display location first
Place the figure on a stable shelf or in a cabinet away from windows that receive direct sun. Sunlight is intense, contains high levels of UV, and is difficult to control; visible light also contributes to cumulative exposure damage. The Library of Congress advises that “Generally, sunlight is avoided for display of light-sensitive items as it is too intense, contains high levels of UV, and is difficult to control.” Library of Congress guidance on limiting light damage explains why limiting both exposure and intensity matters.
- Use curtains or blinds to reduce daylight reaching the display. UV-reducing window film or screens can provide an additional room-level measure where daylight is a concern, but they do not replace keeping the figure out of direct sun. See the Library of Congress’s preservation guidance on matting and framing for discussion of light control.
- Avoid placing the figure near radiators, vents, or other heat sources, and keep it away from leaks or persistently damp locations.
- Do not treat any single temperature or humidity target as a universal scale-figure rule. The right conditions depend on the object’s materials and condition; the cited conservation guidance does not establish a standard for all figures.
Use a case to reduce dust and casual contact
A clear display case can form a barrier against dust and particulates and make accidental handling less likely. Conservation guidance supports cases and cabinets as protective barriers, but it does not quantify the reduction in contact risk for scale figures. Think of a case primarily as dust control, not as a guarantee against every kind of damage.
When considering a clear acrylic display case for figures, compare its usable interior space and practical maintenance as carefully as its appearance. Museum guidance recommends dust-sealing cases while cautioning against making them completely airtight, since trapped fumes can damage collections. Consumer cases vary, so do not assume a particular design is sealed, vented, or built to conservation standards. The Western Australian Museum’s display guidance discusses dust-sealed cases and airflow, while the National Park Service describes cabinet use for collection protection in its guidance on museum storage cabinets.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check these details before choosing a case
- Internal dimensions: Measure the figure, base, and any projecting accessories. Allow clearance so the object does not touch the walls or lid.
- Stability: Choose a case and shelf that remain steady when opened or dusted. The base should sit securely without rocking.
- Access: Make sure you can remove the figure without catching delicate parts and can reach the case interior for cleaning.
- Dust exclusion: Look at how the lid and panels meet, but do not assume a consumer case is completely dust-tight.
- UV documentation: Confirm any UV-blocking claim in documentation for the specific case or glazing. Clear material alone is not evidence of UV protection.
- Heat and airflow: Avoid heat-producing lights inside the enclosure. The Library of Congress recommends locating such lights outside the case and allowing airflow to prevent heat buildup; see its light-damage guidance.
Do not rely on a UV claim to justify bright lighting
Some glazing may have documented UV-filtering performance, but that does not make intense or prolonged light exposure harmless. UV filtering addresses only part of the light risk; reduce how bright the display is and how long the figure remains exposed. If a case listing makes a UV claim, check the product-specific documentation rather than inferring protection from its clear appearance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Handle and clean the figure according to its materials
There is no single dusting recipe that is safe for every scale figure. Painted surfaces, decals, flocking, fabric, and fragile accessories can respond differently to contact. Check the maker’s care instructions first; then use a gentle, low-contact approach suited to the particular materials. Avoid brushing, wiping, or applying cleaning products to delicate areas unless the manufacturer’s guidance supports that method.

Match the protection to the risk
| Concern | Practical measure | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Dust and incidental contact | Use a stable, well-fitting case with enough clearance and access for maintenance. | A case is not proof of UV protection or a quantified guarantee against damage. |
| Direct daylight | Move the display away from direct sun; use curtains or blinds, with window film or screens as supplementary measures where useful. | Room-level light controls do not make direct sunlight harmless if it still reaches the figure. |
| Heat from lighting | Keep heat-producing lamps outside the case and allow airflow. | A case does not itself prevent heat buildup. |
| Cleaning damage | Follow the maker’s instructions and adapt low-contact cleaning to the figure’s actual materials. | No universal dusting method is established for mixed-material figures. |
