Neither service streams every game you own or every title in a subscription catalog, so check your exact game, edition, device, and region before signing up.
How their game libraries and ownership models differ
The core difference is where each service gets game access. Xbox Cloud Gaming centers on a cloud-enabled selection of Xbox games, while GeForce NOW connects to supported PC storefronts and subscriptions. In both cases, a game must be enabled for that service; owning it or paying for a related subscription alone does not guarantee it can be streamed.
Xbox Cloud Gaming: a Game Pass-linked catalog, plus selected games you own
Xbox says most Game Pass titles that are enabled for cloud streaming can be played this way, along with selected free-to-play games and a selection of supported games you own or buy outside Game Pass. “Most” does not mean the entire Game Pass catalog. Availability and features can vary by title, time, region, plan, and platform. Check the Xbox cloud-play catalog for the individual title.
GeForce NOW: supported PC games linked to your accounts
GeForce NOW links to supported games and subscriptions from services including Steam, Epic Games, GOG, PC Game Pass, and Ubisoft Connect. NVIDIA separates Ready-to-Play games from Install-to-Play titles; Install-to-Play is a premium-membership feature. A game or subscription in your account is not enough by itself: confirm that the exact game and edition are supported in the GeForce NOW game list and on the matching storefront.

Why advertised library totals are not a like-for-like comparison
The providers count different kinds of access. Xbox describes hundreds of titles and limits streaming to cloud-enabled games; an Xbox Wire guide dated December 19, 2025 said more than two thirds of the Game Pass library was enabled for streaming at that time. NVIDIA’s current pages display differing catalog totals: its game catalog says “4000+” games and “2200+” Install-to-Play titles, while its home page says “4,500+ PC Games.” These are provider-published figures, not a direct comparison of equivalent libraries, and catalog eligibility can change. Install-to-Play eligibility applies to premium members.
Which devices can run each service?
Both services cover computers, phones, televisions, and handhelds, but compatibility depends on the exact operating system, browser, device model, and region. Use each provider’s current requirements page to confirm a particular device before relying on it.

Xbox Cloud Gaming devices
Xbox lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select LG, Samsung, and VIDAA smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and select Meta Quest headsets. Its December 2025 getting-started guide specified Windows 10 version 20H2 or later, macOS 14.1.2 or later, ChromeOS 85 or later, Android 12 or later, and iOS/iPadOS 14.4 or later; it described Steam Deck support as beta at that time. Those version details are dated and may have changed.
TV support is model-specific, not universal. Xbox lists select LG TVs running webOS 24 or later, including certain 2022 and 2023 models after qualifying updates; select Samsung TVs from 2020 onward and monitors from 2022 onward; and particular Fire TV models. Check the Xbox Cloud Gaming device and TV information for your model.

GeForce NOW devices
NVIDIA’s requirements cover Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, web browsers, Android, iOS/iPadOS, gaming handhelds, SHIELD, smart TV/Android TV, Fire TV, and VR or immersive-display devices. Listed handheld examples include Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw. NVIDIA says GeForce NOW comes preinstalled on Razer Edge and Logitech G Cloud. Controllers, keyboard, and mouse
Xbox lists Xbox controllers as compatible with its cloud gaming service. A compatible controller is needed for most console cloud play, although select games offer touch controls; some games support keyboard and mouse on supported devices. NVIDIA lists Microsoft Xbox controllers and Sony DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers on multiple platforms. It also lists MFi Bluetooth controllers for iPhone and iPad, where a gamepad is required; NVIDIA does not recommend keyboard and mouse for gameplay on those devices. Other gamepads may require drivers or software updates.

For either service, confirm that your chosen game supports your preferred input method on your specific device. Controller compatibility with the app does not mean every game supports every controller feature.

Xbox Game Pass plans and free-to-play access
An Xbox Wire getting-started article dated December 19, 2025 said Cloud Gaming was included with Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. In the article’s US context, it listed Essential at $10 per month with more than 50 games and Premium at $14.99 per month with 200+ games. It described Ultimate as including 400+ games and additional benefits, but did not give an Ultimate price in the cited passage. These are December 2025 figures, not verified October 2026 prices; check the Xbox Game Pass plans page for current local pricing and entitlements.

Xbox also lists selected free-to-play games playable with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. The Xbox Wire guide’s figure of 29 supported countries was also dated 2025, so check current regional availability rather than treating that count as current.
GeForce NOW memberships
NVIDIA offers free and premium memberships as well as a Day Pass. Premium benefits described on its membership page include queue priority, longer sessions, RTX features, and Install-to-Play access. Exact capabilities depend on membership tier, device, and region. A comparable current localized price was not established here; consult NVIDIA’s membership page for the options available where you live.
Connection guidance is platform-specific
Xbox states a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps, says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality, and recommends 20 Mbps or higher in its TV FAQ. NVIDIA publishes requirements by endpoint and stream quality; for Windows, it lists 15 Mbps for HD up to 60 FPS and 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS, with higher speeds for higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate modes. These are provider guidelines, not guarantees of low latency or uninterrupted play. See the current Xbox Cloud Gaming guidance and NVIDIA system requirements.

Xbox is the more natural starting point for someone seeking supported Xbox console games through Game Pass or selected owned Xbox titles. GeForce NOW is the more natural starting point for someone with PC game libraries who wants to stream supported storefront titles and may value premium performance features. Neither is a universal winner: the decisive test is whether the games you want, on the devices you have, are currently eligible where you live.
