Turn the monitor off, unplug it, and gently wipe the screen with a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Use very light pressure. If a mark remains, check the cleaning instructions for your exact monitor model before using water or any cleaner; manufacturers do not give one universal rule for OLED screens. Never spray liquid directly onto the display.
Clean dust and routine marks with a dry microfiber cloth
- Turn the monitor off and unplug its power cord. Let the screen cool if it has been in use.
- Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe away dust. Work in broad, controlled strokes with very light pressure. LG recommends wiping in a consistent direction and cautions that excessive force may cause scratches or discoloration. See LG’s monitor cleaning instructions.
For routine cleaning, you do not need a special screen-cleaning kit. LG’s guidance that special products are unnecessary is specifically for periodic cleaning of LG TVs, not a blanket instruction for every OLED monitor. A microfiber cloth is the only item needed for the dry-wipe method.
For a stubborn fingerprint or stain, check the exact model’s manual
Stop before adding moisture or cleaner. Monitor makers’ instructions can differ, so do not assume that water, screen-cleaning fluid, alcohol, or another product is safe for your display. Follow the manual for your exact model, including its directions for drying and when it is safe to reconnect power.
The distinction matters: LG’s U.S. monitor guidance says not to spray water on the screen or wipe it with a wet cloth, and warns against detergents, automotive or industrial polish, abrasives, wax, benzene, and alcohol. Dell’s instructions for a specific Alienware OLED monitor return procedure instead permit distilled water or 70% ethanol on a clean cloth for the screen area, while still prohibiting direct spraying and warning against other cleaners. Keep liquid away from the display and its edges
- Never spray liquid directly onto the screen. It can run into the monitor.
- Only use moisture or a cleaning agent if the instructions for your exact model permit it.
- If the manual allows a liquid, apply it to the cloth as directed, use no more than specified, and prevent liquid from running toward the screen edges.
- Follow the manufacturer’s drying instructions before plugging the monitor back in or turning it on.
LG’s separate OLED TV cleaning guidance recommends a slightly damp cloth for stubborn TV-screen stains and says special products are not necessary for periodic cleaning. That advice is for LG TVs; it should not be treated as permission to damp-wipe an OLED monitor.
