An alleged GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU scored 21,948 in 3DMark Time Spy—about 20% above the RTX 4080 Laptop GPU average cited in the report. That is a reported synthetic benchmark result, not proof that RTX 5080 laptops are 20% faster in games: the tested laptop, cooling and GPU power were unknown.
How much faster did the leaked RTX 5080 laptop score?
Tom’s Hardware reported on February 7, 2025, that an alleged RTX 5080 Laptop GPU scored 21,948 points in 3DMark Time Spy. The outlet compared that with an average of 18,271 points for RTX 4080 Laptop GPU submissions and characterized the difference as 20%. The report said the RTX 4090 Laptop GPU average in its comparison was 20,406 points. Tom’s Hardware’s report compiled publicly available 3DMark results for its comparison; it did not describe a controlled test of matched laptops.
| Time Spy result | Score | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Alleged RTX 5080 Laptop GPU | 21,948 | Score reported from an alleged leaked screenshot |
| RTX 4080 Laptop GPU | 18,271 | Average cited by Tom’s Hardware from publicly available submissions |
| RTX 4090 Laptop GPU | 20,406 | Average cited by Tom’s Hardware from publicly available submissions |
The numbers are Tom’s Hardware’s account of a leak, not an independently reproduced result. The available report does not establish the original benchmark submission, test-system configuration or whether the result can be reproduced.
Why the leak cannot predict gaming performance
The specific RTX 5080 laptop model and its GPU power setting were unknown. The report also lacked information about cooling and thermals. Those details matter because laptops using the same GPU name can operate at different power levels and sustain performance differently. Tom’s Hardware said a direct comparison was impossible and warned that the scores were not guaranteed to reflect real-world performance.

Time Spy is a synthetic benchmark. Its reported score difference should not be presented as a general gaming uplift, or as a prediction for a particular game, resolution or graphics setting. The report does not provide controlled game tests comparing the two GPUs.
What NVIDIA’s specifications say
NVIDIA’s laptop comparison page lists different memory and power specifications for the two GPUs. These are product specifications, not evidence of how much faster one performs in a matched laptop test. They refer to laptop GPUs, not the desktop RTX 5080 or RTX 4080.

These figures are listed on NVIDIA’s GeForce laptop comparison page. The stated power ranges overlap, so the GPU name alone does not identify the power available in a particular laptop. NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series laptop page also lists features including DLSS 4; feature availability does not establish a specific performance advantage in the leaked test.
