There is no verified “best” preset or published FPS gain for Farthest Frontier. The most useful approach is to check your PC against the game’s requirements, then test one setting at a time in the same location, at the same resolution and game speed. If slowdowns happen only in particular areas, try lowering shadows first; a recent report suggests they can matter in some scenes, but it is not a universal fix.
Start with a repeatable comparison
Performance can vary with hardware, graphics options, game version, settlement size and the scene on screen. To tell whether a change helps, compare like with like rather than relying on a different view or a later stage of settlement growth.
- Record your baseline: note the game version, resolution, graphics options, settlement stage or population, game speed and the location where slowdown occurs.
- Recreate the same scene: keep the camera, location, resolution and simulation speed consistent. Try to compare under similar settlement activity.
- Change one setting: test it, then return to the same scene and compare before changing anything else.
- Keep or revert: retain a change only if it improves your experience without an unacceptable visual trade-off.
This is a practical troubleshooting method, not a developer-published benchmark. Crate Entertainment’s official materials do not provide a controlled settings comparison or an FPS target across hardware and settlement sizes.
Check whether your PC meets the published requirements
Steam lists the following requirements for the Windows version of Farthest Frontier. They are published requirements, not independent performance tests or a promise of a particular frame rate. In particular, the recommended tier does not guarantee smooth performance at every resolution or in a large settlement. Check the Steam listing for the current figures.

Which settings should you test first?
Shadows for slowdowns in particular areas
If performance drops in specific places rather than throughout the game, lower shadows or turn them off and repeat the same scene comparison. In an August 15, 2026 forum discussion, a player reported area-specific drops and Crate representative Zantai said that, for those reported areas and assets, “turning down shadows makes such a difference for you.” The comment concerns that player’s report; it does not establish that shadows are always the main cause or the best setting to change on every PC. Weather effects when slowdowns coincide with effects
Crate’s official notes document an in-game option to toggle weather particles or effects. Try changing that option if the slowdown coincides with those effects, then compare the same scene. The notes do not publish a measured FPS benefit for disabling them. See the v1.0.0 and hotfix notes for the documented option.
Update the game before diagnosing persistent problems
Crate’s official patch index lists v1.1.2, dated June 10, 2026, as its latest patch-notes topic visible in the index. Check the official patch notes and your installed build: the index may have changed since that date.

Earlier official notes document several performance-related changes, including a fix for a brief hitch when opening the crop-field window and optimization work on advanced villager widgets for large settlements. Those notes do not identify a setting that produces the largest frame-rate improvement. A historical v0.9.3 changelog also describes optimization work aimed particularly at large settlements; it should not be taken as evidence of a particular frame rate in the current game. Read the v0.9.3 changelog.

If the slowdown persists, note whether it happens everywhere or follows a particular location, weather effect or settlement stage. When asking for support, include the exact game version, CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, settlement size, game speed and affected scene. A report about another player’s area-specific issue can suggest a setting to test, but cannot diagnose your PC.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
Do not assume that adding RAM will fix a slowdown. The published recommended memory figure is 16 GB; if your system has less, check motherboard compatibility before considering an upgrade. The requirement itself is not evidence that adding memory improves performance when your PC already meets the recommendation.
