The The Champions’ Ballad DLC adds 16 more, for 136 shrine locations across the game and expansion. You do not need the DLC to find or complete the original 120.
The most reliable way to track them down is to reveal Hyrule’s map tower by tower, search one region at a time with the Sheikah Slate’s map and scope, and compare what you find against a regional checklist. When a shrine marker is hard to reach or activate, use its specific directions rather than treating the map pin as the entrance.
Know which shrine count you are tracking
The base-game checklist contains 120 shrines. Zelda Dungeon’s shrine index lists them by region and separates the 16 additional shrines in The Champions’ Ballad. The DLC shrines are not needed to finish the base-game set.
The DLC’s 16 locations do not all award Spirit Orbs: the source distinguishes four Spirit Orb rewards from the remaining emblems connected to the Divine Beast Tamer’s Trial. Keep the base-game count and DLC progress separate when checking your total.

Use the Sheikah Slate to search Hyrule systematically
The Sheikah Slate provides a map of Hyrule, and its scope can help identify points of interest. Nintendo describes these navigation features on its official game page. Rather than scanning the whole world at once, use towers to uncover the map and divide your search into manageable regions.
- Reveal a map area. Activate a tower to unlock its section of the world map. The Nintendo Life regional guide also organizes shrine locations by tower map area.
- Choose one region and check its list. Compare that region’s shrine entries with your map before moving on. Zelda Dungeon’s index provides a region-by-region list and links to shrine pages.
- Scan for points of interest. Use the scope to look over the terrain and mark likely locations on your map. Revisit places that appear to match a listed shrine but have no visible entrance.
- Resolve difficult entries individually. Check the directions for that shrine’s location and access requirements. Some entrances or activations depend on a quest, a specific approach, or access to a cave, so a marker alone may not lead you straight to the door.
- Finish the region before switching areas. Mark off each entry you have found, then move to another revealed region. This makes it easier to identify which part of the map still needs attention.
How to tell which shrine you are missing
Compare your map with one regional list at a time, and distinguish between a shrine you have not found and one you have found but not completed. The shrine icon changes state as you progress, and Zelda Dungeon notes that a chest indicator appears when all chests in that shrine have been collected. A missing chest indicator is therefore not, by itself, evidence that the shrine location is missing.
- No shrine marker where the regional list expects one: search the surrounding terrain and check whether the entrance is hidden or requires a particular route.
- A shrine marker is present but the shrine is not complete: return to its entrance and finish the shrine’s challenge.
- The shrine is complete but the chest indicator is absent: check the shrine again for an uncollected chest; the location itself is not necessarily missing.
Why a shrine may not be accessible yet
Not every shrine can be entered simply by walking to the point shown on the map. The regional examples in Nintendo Life’s guide and the individual entries in Zelda Dungeon’s index illustrate why it is useful to check the specific directions: the visible location, the entrance, and the requirement to activate a shrine may not be the same thing.
If you reach the expected spot without finding an entrance, check the shrine’s directions for a nearby cave, a quest requirement, or another access condition. Avoid marking the location as impossible or missing until you have checked how that particular shrine is reached.

Keep DLC progress separate from the base-game checklist
The Champions’ Ballad adds 16 shrine locations to the original 120. If your goal is every shrine in the base game, stop when those 120 are accounted for; the expansion is additional content. Nintendo’s Canada product listing says the Expansion Pass requires the full game and is sold separately, and lists the two DLC packs. Check the current listing for availability and purchase details.
Nintendo lists the game’s release date as March 3, 2017, and its current product page identifies the Nintendo Switch edition and Switch 2 compatibility information. Those platform and product details are separate from the shrine count.
