How to Fix Razer Tartarus V2 Pro Key Mapping and Synapse Issues

Use Synapse’s Customize tab to remap a Tartarus V2 Pro key, then verify the active profile and keymap. For detection or unexpected input problems, follow model-specific Razer support guidance before resetting.

If a Razer Tartarus V2 Pro key seems wrong or its assignment appears to vanish, first check which profile and keymap are active. To remap a key, open the keypad in Razer Synapse, select Customize, click the pictured key, and assign the desired function. Synapse is supposed to save changes automatically. If Synapse does not detect the keypad, resolve detection before trying to remap it.

Remap a Tartarus V2 Pro key in Synapse

Razer’s Tartarus V2 Pro product FAQ says to use the latest available version of Razer Synapse. Its documented workflow is:

  1. Update Razer Synapse to the latest version available to you.
  2. Open Synapse and select the Tartarus V2 Pro device tile.
  3. Open Customize, then click the key you want to change on the keypad image.
  4. Choose the desired keyboard function, shortcut, or supported function and apply the assignment.
  5. Test the key in a safe text field or the intended game or application. Confirm that the profile and keymap you expect are active.

Razer describes changes as saving automatically; it does not document this workflow as a universal fix for every save failure. If an assignment does not behave as expected, check the active configuration before recreating it.

Check the active profile and keymap

The Tartarus V2 Pro supports up to 24 configurable keymaps across three profiles, and physical buttons cycle profiles and keymaps. That makes an unexpected active layer a plausible explanation for seeing a different mapping than the one you edited. Check the device’s active profile and keymap in Synapse, and use the keypad’s cycle controls deliberately rather than rebuilding assignments immediately.

Razer says the last-used Synapse profile is stored onboard and indicated by a white profile light. The factory-default profile is indicated by green; it uses a 2.0 mm actuation point with Rapid Trigger off and cannot be modified. If the indicator is green, you may be looking at that unmodifiable default rather than your custom profile.

The product has 31 programmable controls, a TMR thumbstick, and dedicated Hypershift, keymap-cycle, and profile-cycle controls. Make sure you are editing the intended control and layer in Synapse, especially when a key has a layered assignment.

If Synapse does not detect the keypad or input behaves unexpectedly

Work through basic checks first. A mapping cannot be changed through Synapse while the application does not recognize the device.

  1. Update Synapse and restart the PC. Razer recommends keeping Synapse current. Restart after installing or updating it.
  2. Check device selection. Open Synapse and confirm that the Tartarus V2 Pro appears and that you selected its device tile before editing.
  3. Check the profile, keymap, and a simple assignment. Test an ordinary key assignment before changing advanced input options.
  4. Check for current device firmware guidance. Razer recommends updating device firmware as well as Synapse. Follow the current instructions for the Tartarus V2 Pro rather than applying firmware steps intended for another model.
  5. Consider a hard reset only after those checks. Razer’s Tartarus V2 Pro support page describes a hard reset as restoring factory defaults and says it may help with unresponsiveness, unexpected key or lighting behavior, or detection problems. Consult that model-specific page for the exact procedure; do not guess the button sequence. A reset returns the keypad to factory defaults.

Razer’s separate support article for the older Tartarus V2 (model RZ07-02270) discusses repairing or clean-reinstalling Synapse and using device-detection guidance. That is adjacent-model advice, not a verified Tartarus V2 Pro repair sequence. If you consider repairing or reinstalling Synapse, use Razer’s current support instructions and confirm they apply to your software version and device.

Check advanced input settings only when the symptom fits

Some behavior that looks like a broken mapping may come from an enabled input feature or a layered assignment. These settings are not general fixes for detection or saving problems.

What you observe What to check next
Synapse sees the keypad, but a key does the wrong thing Confirm the selected device, active profile, keymap, and any relevant layered or advanced input assignment; then test a simple assignment.
A mapping appears to disappear after switching states Check whether a profile or keymap-cycle control changed the active configuration.
Synapse does not show the keypad Update Synapse, restart after an update, check Razer’s current firmware and device-detection guidance, and consult the Pro support page before considering a reset.
The keypad is unresponsive or lighting or keys behave unexpectedly Check profile and input settings first; if the issue persists, use the Pro support page’s hard-reset instructions, understanding that the reset restores factory defaults.
