The 2025 ROG Xbox Ally was listed at a U.S. estimated retail price (ERP) of $599.99, while the ROG Xbox Ally X was listed at $999.99 when preorders opened in September 2025. Those figures are U.S. estimates, not global prices; Xbox said exact prices would be announced by region as preorders went live. ASUS set the preorder start for 2:00 a.m. CEST on September 26, 2025, in select markets.
How much do the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X cost?
Microsoft’s Xbox Wire preorder announcement on September 25, 2025, gave these U.S. estimated retail prices:
| 2025 model | U.S. ERP at preorder opening |
|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally | $599.99 |
| ROG Xbox Ally X | $999.99 |
Xbox described the amounts as estimated retail prices and said exact prices would be announced per region as preorders went live. They should not be treated as prices for other countries. Xbox Wire’s preorder announcement has the U.S. figures and regional-pricing caveat.
ASUS’s U.S. product pages continue to list the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally at $599.99 and the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X at $999.99. These are current ASUS Store listings; retailer prices, stock and promotions may differ or change. See the ROG Xbox Ally product page and ROG Xbox Ally X product page.

When did preorders start, and when did the handhelds reach stores?
Preorder timing
ASUS said preorders would begin at 2:00 a.m. CEST on September 26, 2025, in select markets. It named Microsoft Store, ASUS eShop and local retailers as purchase channels. The timing was not a single worldwide opening: the Xbox Wire post was dated September 25 and described preorders as starting that day, while ASUS specified the CEST time and select-market qualification. Check the ASUS preorder announcement for its wording and market details.
Store availability
ASUS announced October 16, 2025, as the on-shelf date, subject to market and model availability. That is the announced launch date, not confirmation of current stock. ASUS noted that some countries would receive the devices later or have model-specific availability. ASUS’s launch-date announcement gives the original availability details.

What does the extra cost of the Ally X correspond to?
The clearest documented distinction is in the manufacturers’ listed specifications. The table compares the announced U.S. ERPs with ASUS’s launch configurations; specifications are not independent performance-test results.
| Specification | ROG Xbox Ally | ROG Xbox Ally X |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. ERP at preorder opening | $599.99 | $999.99 |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 A | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme |
| Memory | 16 GB LPDDR5X-6400 | 24 GB LPDDR5X-8000 |
| Storage | 512 GB M.2 SSD | 1 TB M.2 SSD |
| Battery capacity | 60 Wh | 80 Wh |
On paper, the Ally X pairs a higher-tier processor with more memory, storage and battery capacity. Those specifications alone do not establish a universal performance or battery-life advantage; results depend on the game and operating conditions. ASUS’s launch specifications appear in its preorder announcement and launch announcement.
