GIGABYTE Says AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX eGPU Comes Within 5% of Desktop GPU

GIGABYTE says its external RTX 5060 Ti enclosure has a 5% performance difference from a desktop card, but that figure is a manufacturer claim—not an independent benchmark result.

GIGABYTE says its AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX delivers a performance difference of just 5% compared with a desktop RTX 5060 Ti installed directly in a PC. That is the company’s claim, not a result established by an independent, workload-by-workload benchmark suite. The enclosure combines a desktop GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of GDDR7 memory and connects to a compatible computer over Thunderbolt 5 or, on supported systems, USB4.

What does GIGABYTE mean by “nearly matches”?

In its September 22, 2025 launch announcement, GIGABYTE said the AI BOX has “only a 5% performance difference” versus a native, on-slot RTX 5060 Ti. The company did not attach a detailed set of games, resolutions, host computers, or creative applications to that figure in the cited material. HotHardware’s September 12, 2025 launch coverage also attributed the 5% comparison to GIGABYTE, and the AORUS guide repeats an “even 5% drop.” Those are reports of the manufacturer’s claim, not independent validation.

No independent, repeatable benchmark dataset or named external testing lab validating this precise comparison was identified among the available sources. Treat 5% as a headline comparison from GIGABYTE, not a guaranteed gap for every game or setup. The actual result for a particular workload and host is not established by that figure.

What is the AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX?

It is an external GPU enclosure built around a desktop GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of GDDR7 memory. The product model is GV-N506TIXEB-16GD. Rather than installing a graphics card in a desktop’s PCIe slot, a user connects the enclosure to a compatible computer by cable. GIGABYTE positions it for 1080p-to-2K gaming, creative and 3D work, and lightweight local AI workloads; those are intended-use descriptions from the manufacturer, not independent findings about performance in those tasks.

Will it work with your laptop or PC?

The official product page lists Thunderbolt 5 and USB4, but USB4 alone does not guarantee that a computer supports external GPUs. GIGABYTE says USB4 eGPU compatibility varies by device and advises buyers to confirm support with their computer manufacturer. Check the exact model’s documentation or support channel rather than relying only on a USB-C port’s appearance or the USB4 label.

The cited product page also recommends Windows 11 version 25H2 or later for smooth installation and configuration. AORUS’s guide includes a question about Thunderbolt 4, but the available product information does not establish a universal Thunderbolt 4 compatibility guarantee. Verify support for the exact computer and connection standard before buying.

  • SFF-8611 Male to Male Cable: Ultra-thin & flexible design (0.5mm thickness) with premium aesthetics, eliminating port damage risks from rigid traditional OCuLink cables. Flat cable architecture with full-coverage shielding and advanced EMI materials to minimize interference and performance degradation
  • Compatible Graphics Cards: Compatible with graphics cards of various sizes like RTX 4090, AMD RX 7900 XTX etc., no need to worry about graphics card length restrictions. 🔺Compatible Power Supply: Compatible with standard ATX power supply ONLY, dual screw mounting (top & bottom) for PSU stability
  • Note: The OCulink interface does not support hot plugging, and the computer needs to be turned off to unplug the cable.

What else does the enclosure provide?

Alongside the graphics connection, GIGABYTE lists Ethernet, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 peripheral ports, Thunderbolt daisy chaining, and Power Delivery of up to 100W for charging a laptop. The AORUS store listing specifies an included 330W power supply. These features can make the box useful as a dock as well as an external GPU, but charging power and port availability do not resolve whether a particular host supports eGPU operation.

The manufacturer describes its cooling system as WINDFORCE, with Hawk fans, copper heat pipes, and server-grade thermal conductive gel. These are design details from GIGABYTE; the cited sources do not provide independent measurements of noise or cooling performance.

How does it compare with installing a desktop RTX 5060 Ti?

The AI BOX offers an external way to add a desktop-class GPU to a compatible computer, with extra connectivity and laptop charging built into the product. A desktop RTX 5060 Ti installed directly in a PC avoids the external connection, but the available sources do not provide matched independent tests to quantify how much that changes performance across games, resolutions, or other workloads.

Before choosing between them, compare your host’s confirmed eGPU support, the applications and resolutions you care about, the 16GB memory requirement, and whether the enclosure’s ports and charging are useful to your setup. Current region-specific price and stock comparisons, as well as a validated compatibility list, are not established by the cited material.
