Lenovo’s second-generation Legion Go pairs an 8.8-inch 144Hz OLED screen with detachable controllers and, in higher-end configurations, AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Lenovo showed a prototype at CES in January 2025, then announced the production Windows model on September 5, 2025. It is called Legion Go (8.8”, 2) in Lenovo’s announcement and Legion Go Gen 2 in some retail listings; it is not the separate Legion Go S.

What is the Lenovo Legion Go 2?

The Legion Go (8.8”, 2) is the second generation of Lenovo’s detachable-controller gaming handheld. Lenovo’s CES 2025 reveal was explicitly a prototype, with production details still being refined. The company announced the production Windows 11 model on September 5, 2025. The earlier prototype specifications should not be treated as a guarantee that every final configuration would ship unchanged.

Lenovo later announced a separate Legion Go, Powered by SteamOS (8.8”, 2) at CES 2026. That is a distinct operating-system edition, not simply another name for the Windows model.

Lenovo Legion Go 2 specifications

Feature Lenovo’s announced specification
Display 8.8-inch, 16:10 OLED touchscreen; 1920×1200 resolution; up to 144Hz with 30–144Hz variable refresh rate (VRR).
Processor Up to AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Lenovo lists that option with 8 cores, 16 threads and a 15–30W configurable TDP; processor choice depends on configuration.
Graphics Up to AMD Radeon 890M graphics with 16 graphics cores, according to Lenovo’s production announcement.
Memory Up to 32GB LPDDR5X-8000. Lenovo’s PSREF says memory is soldered and not upgradeable; configurations include 16GB or 32GB.
Internal storage Up to 2TB M.2 2242 PCIe Gen 4 SSD in Lenovo’s launch specification. The PSREF lists a single M.2 slot and supported 2242 and 2280 drive offerings; check the exact model before buying a replacement.
Expansion MicroSD card slot; Lenovo’s announcement says support for up to an additional 2TB.
Battery 74Wh. Lenovo described this as over 50% higher capacity than the previous generation; that is a battery-capacity comparison, not a tested runtime claim.
Controls and stand Detachable redesigned TrueStrike controllers, a kickstand and FPS mode. Lenovo says the second-generation controllers are backward-compatible with the first-generation Legion Go.
Ports USB4 ports on the top and bottom.
Operating system Windows 11 for the production model announced in September 2025; a separate SteamOS edition was announced in January 2026.

What the screen and controls mean in practice

OLED at 1920×1200

The 8.8-inch panel combines a 16:10 aspect ratio with 1920×1200 resolution, touch input and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Lenovo specifies a 30–144Hz VRR range. This is a 1200p-class display, not a 1440p panel. The refresh-rate ceiling describes the display capability, not a promise that a game will render at 144 frames per second.

Detachable controllers and kickstand

The controllers can be detached, while the built-in kickstand supports setting the handheld upright. Lenovo also lists an FPS mode and says the new TrueStrike controllers work with the first-generation Legion Go. Those features give the device more flexibility than a handheld with permanently attached controls, though the announcement alone does not establish how comfortable or effective each mode is in use.

Storage and memory choices

Choose memory capacity at purchase: the LPDDR5X is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later. The internal SSD is a separate matter: Lenovo’s PSREF identifies one M.2 slot and lists supported 2242 and 2280 options. Confirm the regional SKU and SSD format before planning a replacement. A microSD card provides an additional storage option, but Lenovo’s capacity claim does not mean card performance matches the internal SSD.

Ryzen Z2 versus Ryzen Z2 Extreme: check the configuration

“Ryzen Z2 firepower” does not mean every Legion Go 2 has the same processor. Lenovo announced the product with up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme; its PSREF for model family 8ASP2 specifies that chip in the referenced configuration. Because the processor and memory can vary by SKU, verify the exact regional listing rather than assuming that a headline specification applies to every unit.

Lenovo’s production announcement lists the Z2 Extreme option at 8 cores and 16 threads, with a 15–30W configurable TDP, and pairs it with Radeon 890M graphics featuring 16 graphics cores. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent game benchmarks. No performance comparison or frame-rate result is established here.

Release timeline, editions and announced prices

Edition or milestone What Lenovo announced
Prototype reveal, CES 2025 Lenovo presented the Legion Go (8.8”, 2) as a prototype in January 2025 and said production details were still being refined.
Production Windows model Announced September 5, 2025, with expected availability starting in September 2025 and an expected European starting price of €999. These were announcement-time estimates, not confirmed current prices or stock.
SteamOS edition Announced at CES 2026 as Legion Go, Powered by SteamOS (8.8”, 2), with estimated U.S. availability from June 2026 and an estimated starting price of $1,199. This is a separate edition and a dated estimate.

Prices and availability can differ by country, retailer, configuration and operating-system edition. Check Lenovo or an authorized seller for the current local listing before making a purchase decision.

Which Legion Go 2 details matter when comparing models?

  • Operating system: Compare Windows 11 and SteamOS versions as distinct editions; do not assume they share identical availability or configuration choices.
  • Processor and memory: Confirm whether a listing has Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme, and whether it includes 16GB or 32GB of soldered memory.
  • SSD: Compare the included capacity and verify the drive format if replaceability matters to you.
  • Price and region: Treat Lenovo’s €999 and $1,199 figures as historical, region- and edition-specific launch estimates, not current universal prices.
  • Form factor: Weigh the large 8.8-inch screen and detachable-controller design against the size and cost that suit your use.

Lenovo’s official specifications establish the hardware options, but they do not establish independent gaming performance or battery runtime. Battery capacity in watt-hours alone cannot predict how long a particular game will run.
