Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf your Airbnb host says they can’t accommodate your stay, ask the host to cancel the reservation, contact Airbnb through the reservation’s support options, and search for nearby lodging at the same time. Don’t cancel on the host’s behalf. Before booking a replacement, confirm it is available for your whole stay and check the total cost, location, check-in logistics, occupancy fit, and cancellation terms.
First, confirm who canceled and keep the conversation in Airbnb
Check your itinerary, cancellation notice, and Airbnb messages to see whether the host or you canceled. If the host says they can’t host you, ask them to initiate the cancellation. Airbnb advises guests not to cancel for a host who cannot accommodate the reservation; if the host is pressuring you to cancel, contact Airbnb support instead. Keep the messages and any receipts related to the disruption.
For a host cancellation before check-in, Airbnb says you’re entitled to a full refund, including service fees, if you choose not to rebook. The policy differs for other situations, including a guest’s own cancellation or a problem that begins after check-in.
Contact Airbnb and ask which options apply to your reservation
Use the help or support entry on the affected reservation and explain when you need to check in, how many people need accommodation, your location limits, and any essential accessibility or amenity needs. Give a realistic price ceiling and ask what refund or rebooking options are available for this booking.

Airbnb says, “You can also contact us to get help finding a similar place to stay.” Its help article describes assistance based on factors such as location, amenities, availability, and comparable price. That is an offer of help, not a guarantee that a replacement will be found or that Airbnb will cover a higher price. Its policy says it may, but is not obligated to, pay or contribute to new accommodation costs.
Choose between rebooking credit and a refund
If you choose not to rebook after a pre-check-in host cancellation, Airbnb says it will issue a full refund, including service fees. Eligible guests may instead be offered booking credit for immediate rebooking. If that credit is unused after 72 hours, Airbnb says it is automatically refunded; guests who aren’t eligible for credit receive the refund immediately. Once initiated, the time it takes for a refund to reach you depends on your bank or other financial institution.

Search for backup lodging while Airbnb reviews your options
Don’t wait for the Airbnb conversation to finish before checking alternatives. Search hotels, motels, serviced apartments, and other vacation rentals for the same dates, including nearby areas that work with your transport plans. Filter for the actual number of guests and your arrival time.
- Availability and check-in: Confirm directly with the provider that the room or unit is available for every night and that you can check in when you’ll arrive. Check entry instructions and any check-in cutoff.
- Total price: Compare the final cost, including taxes and fees, rather than relying on a nightly headline rate. If Airbnb offers a contribution, confirm its amount and terms before counting it toward your budget.
- Location and access: Check distance to your destination, transit, and any accessibility needs—not just the neighborhood name.
- Fit and essentials: Make sure the accommodation accepts your party size and provides the features you genuinely need.
- Cancellation terms: Read the provider’s cancellation and refund rules before paying, especially if Airbnb is still working on rebooking.
A search result is not a confirmed room. Verify availability, full charges, and arrival arrangements with the lodging provider before relying on the booking.

If the problem happens after check-in
For a covered Reservation Issue during a stay, Airbnb’s policy says the guest who booked should contact Airbnb or the host within 72 hours after discovering it. Report the problem promptly and share relevant evidence, such as photos, video, or a host confirmation, where applicable.
Airbnb says a possible remedy may be a partial or full refund or rebooking assistance. The outcome depends on the issue’s severity and impact, how much of the stay is affected, whether you leave, mitigating factors, and the evidence available; it is not an automatic promise of replacement accommodation.
