Valve’s current calendar still lists the Spring Sale and Summer Sale, while a separate planned change would alter how discounts and events are promoted in Steam’s Discounts & Events section. The rollout date and final mechanics were not settled in the latest report.
Are Steam sales ending in 2027?
No cancellation of Steam’s seasonal sales has been announced. Valve’s Steamworks calendar currently lists four seasonal sales through 2027, including the Spring Sale and Summer Sale. The schedule is subject to change, so check Valve’s official event calendar for updates.

Valve describes seasonal sales as Steam-wide events held four times a year. Its schedule also includes themed Fests and Steam Next Fest, which are separate kinds of events: themed Fests spotlight game categories, while Next Fest features playable demos of upcoming games. Their place on the same calendar does not mean the seasonal sales are being discontinued. Valve explains the event types and participation rules in its Steamworks event documentation.
What is changing about Steam’s Discounts & Events section?
The reported change concerns how promotional placements are selected and surfaced—not whether sale events happen. GamesRadar reported on September 29, 2026, that Valve planned to move away from a system in which partners schedule placements through Steamworks or Valve’s Steam team curates them. The goal, as Valve described it in that report, is to give more discounted games and sale events a chance to appear on the homepage and elsewhere, rather than confining visibility to a small number of fixed slots. The report said the change was expected in early 2027, but Valve had not set a definitive implementation date.

| What continues | What is planned to change |
|---|---|
| Seasonal sale events remain listed on Valve’s calendar, including Spring and Summer 2027. | The way games and events are selected for visibility in Discounts & Events is expected to become more dynamic and personalized. |
| Discounts still determine the offer a game is running. | Promotional discovery would move beyond a limited set of manually scheduled placements. |
| Valve’s calendar separately lists themed Fests and Next Fest. | The intended effect is broader exposure for discounts and events; the final interface and controls have not been established. |
GamesRadar’s report attributes to Valve tests in which the section could “show 10x more games to customers in a given day,” along with “meaningful increases in store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions.” Those are results Valve reported from its testing, not independently verified outcomes or a guarantee of what users will see after a full rollout. What the change does—and does not—tell players
Expect a change to discovery, not personalized prices
The reporting describes personalized discovery and placement: which discounted games or events might be shown to a user. It does not establish that Valve plans individualized game prices. A personalized storefront presentation should not be confused with a personalized price.

The final layout and user controls are still unknown
The September 29, 2026 report said Valve was still working through implementation details and had no definitive date. It does not establish what the final section will look like, whether users will be able to adjust or disable personalization, or exactly where its recommendations will appear.

The planned discovery change does not, by itself, replace Valve’s current discount policies. Steamworks documentation says a discount of 20% or more automatically triggers an email notification to players who have wishlisted a game. Discounted titles may also appear in Steam specials based on tags, popularity, and recommendations. These are current documented behaviors, not a description of the unfinished 2027 change. See Valve’s Seasonal Sales documentation for the eligibility and discount details.
