To play DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations, make sure your edition includes the expansion or buy the standalone digital add-on; on Steam, the base game is required. Play through the campaign, checking side paths and vertical routes for secrets. According to reviewed coverage, level replay and additional challenges become available after the story, so you can return for cleanup then.
How to unlock Revelations
Bethesda Support says Revelations is included with the Premium Edition and Collectors Bundle. If you own the base game without an included entitlement, you can buy the standalone add-on. Bethesda lists the add-on at USD $19.99 and the Premium Edition upgrade at USD $34.99 as launch/listed prices; these are not guaranteed current prices, so check your platform’s store for the price and availability in your region.
Steam’s listing specifies that its Revelations DLC requires DOOM: The Dark Ages. Bethesda announced availability for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, and noted Game Pass availability at the time of that announcement. Subscription catalogs and entitlements can change; check your platform’s current listing. Bethesda also says an entitlement issue affecting eligible Premium Edition Steam owners was resolved.
How to work through the campaign
Bethesda describes Revelations as a campaign expansion with new levels, puzzles, demons, and the Chain Spear. The collectible guide covers six chapter areas: Proving Grounds, Hell’s Core, Chasm of Xal’Goroth, Osseus, Purgatory, and Uprising. It describes Purgatory as a hub, but the reviewed sources do not provide an official mission-order page or a complete list of mandatory story objectives.

Explore as you go
For a thorough first run, look beyond the obvious route. Check side paths, broken walls, raised ledges, and routes opened by objects you can interact with. In Proving Grounds, for example, the guide describes broken stairs on the left before the castle entrance leading to a secret area. Green Flesh and a shield pull lead to Codex: Marok Letters I. Elsewhere in the level, a blue skull opens an elevator route with enemies and fire traps; after a lever and a Komodo Dragon fight, that route leads to a Life Sigil. The guide also describes shield-activated energy nodes opening a door and a broken wall concealing another secret. These are examples, not a replacement for the guide’s map-based directions.
Use the Chain Spear in combat
Bethesda presents the Chain Spear as a new combat system built around power and mobility. PC Gamer describes parrying and dodging with it, including dodges that can supercharge the weapon. Earlier weapons and the repaired Shield Saw also return as the campaign progresses. Learn the spear’s timing and use its movement options, but the available sources do not establish a universally best weapon setup.

When to revisit levels and tackle extra content
PC Gamer reports that players cannot return to levels until after beating the story. It also reports that time-trial combat challenges, classic-Doom-inspired levels, and tough bosses unlock after the story, and describes revisiting the hub after missions to open additional areas. A practical approach is to explore carefully during the campaign, finish the story, then return for missed collectibles and optional challenges.
Bethesda says owners who complete the story gain three additional Ripatorium maps, demons, and fully upgraded new weapons. This is a post-story reward for DLC owners, distinct from simply finding campaign secrets.
