Which consoles can play GTA 6?

How to decide between PlayStation and Xbox
Start with the console you already own
If you have a PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you are already within a listed platform family. Buying another console just for GTA 6 is hard to justify unless you have a specific reason, such as wanting to join friends on a different platform. Compare the actual models and total cost
There is no market-independent best-value pick: local prices, stock and model configurations can vary. Compare the console’s current price and storage in your area rather than relying on a general price ranking. The official pages cited here do not establish a price comparison or a storage requirement for GTA 6, so do not assume a particular model has a confirmed advantage on those points.
Factor in your existing games and subscriptions
Consider where your digital library is, which subscription you already pay for, and which platform your friends use. These personal ecosystem factors can make one option more convenient, but they do not establish that GTA 6 itself will run better there.

Choose features you will use
PlayStation describes GTA 6 as taking advantage of PS5 features including DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and the console’s SSD. The PlayStation Blog also carries a Rockstar statement that the game “will play best on PS5.” That is a platform-holder promotional claim, not a published, quantified comparison with Xbox Series X or Series S. The official material cited here does not provide comparative frame rates, resolutions or independent tests, so it cannot support a neutral technical ranking.
Does the GTA 6 edition affect which console to buy?
No. Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions; edition choice concerns included content, not platform compatibility. Rockstar says a Standard Edition owner can buy an Ultimate Edition upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront after redeeming the game code. Check the current storefront listing for the exact contents and terms before buying.

What to know before buying a boxed copy
Rockstar says the physical version is a box containing a download code, not a disc. You will need to redeem the code and download the game. Rockstar also notes that code redemption can be restricted by region and recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as the platform account to avoid activation problems. Confirm the code’s region and account compatibility before purchase.
