For a flexible early-to-mid-game team in Legend of Kingdoms, build around Ma Chao (Meng Qi), then add Zhao Yun (Zi Long), Lu Lingqi (Ling Qi), Sun Luyu (Little Tiger), and Demon Diao Chan (Bi Yue), if you have them. This is Pocket Gamer’s lineup recommendation, not an official or universally optimal team: your best setup depends on your roster, upgrades, and the game’s current balance.
Recommended beginner team
Pocket Gamer’s January 13, 2025 beginner guide recommends this five-hero lineup for early-to-mid-game progression:
- Ma Chao (Meng Qi): the suggested main carry and first upgrade priority.
- Zhao Yun (Zi Long): a damage-dealing addition to the lineup.
- Lu Lingqi (Ling Qi): another damage option.
- Sun Luyu (Little Tiger): a support choice.
- Demon Diao Chan (Bi Yue): a damage dealer; Pocket Gamer’s September 2026 tier-list entry describes her as a high-DPS assassin with self-healing and bleed.
These recommendations come from Pocket Gamer’s January 13, 2025 beginner guide. If you do not have Demon Diao Chan, use another strong damage dealer you can field. If Saint Da Qiao is available, Pocket Gamer suggests replacing Sun Luyu in this version. The guide does not establish that the replacement or lineup is best for every account.
Alternative lineup and how to choose
Pocket Gamer also offers this five-hero option: Ma Chao, Demon Dong Zhuo (Zhong Ying), Demon Lu Bu (Feng Xian), Saint Da Qiao, and Demon Diao Chan. The sources do not provide a controlled head-to-head comparison, so neither option can be called mathematically superior.
#1 Best Overall
| Consideration | What to check |
|---|---|
| Availability | Use heroes you actually have; pulls and upgrades differ by account. |
| Frontline protection | Keep at least one hero able to take pressure so fragile damage dealers are less exposed. |
| Support | Include at least one support for healing, shields, control, or other team utility. |
| Damage | Keep a clear damage focus rather than filling the team with roles that do not advance your immediate goal. |
| Faction bonus | Check the pre-fight bonus and whether a lineup change improves it without undermining the roles your team needs. |
The official Google Play listing says faction bonuses and formation are part of the game. Its description does not establish that a particular faction mix or lineup wins more often.
Formation: protect fragile heroes
Pocket Gamer’s beginner guidance is to field at least one frontline hero and one support. The frontline absorbs pressure; support helps sustain the group or adds utility. Put a durable hero where they can take attacks and shield fragile damage dealers. When the formation interface permits, place support and ranged damage behind that frontline. This is a practical role-based placement, not a verified coordinate-by-coordinate map: the guide does not specify exact tiles.

Which heroes to upgrade first
Follow the beginner guide’s resource strategy: concentrate scarce upgrade materials on the active team and improve one hero before spreading resources across the roster. It names Ma Chao as the first priority. Treat that as the guide’s recommendation, not a claim about a current game-system rule; a different hero may deserve priority if your roster or progress calls for it.
Gear and progression when you stall
Give your strongest available equipment to the heroes carrying your team, and inspect the stats instead of relying only on auto-gear. Pocket Gamer lists gear rarities as Green, Blue, Purple, Gold, Red, Pink, and Rainbow; that list does not guarantee that a particular rarity will drop or be available to every player.

If a stage stops you, work through the practical adjustments recommended in the beginner guide:
- Upgrade heroes currently in your active lineup, starting with your chosen carry.
- Change team members if the lineup lacks a frontline, support, or enough damage.
- Review equipment stats and improve gear where you can.
- Check quests and events for progression resources, then retry story stages when your team is stronger.
- Before battle, review the faction bonus and the abilities of the heroes you are fielding.
Reward timing, currency amounts, and event contents can change, so check the current in-game menus rather than relying on old reward claims.

What current game information can—and cannot—tell you
StarBoom Studio’s Google Play listing, updated September 2, 2026, describes more than 60 fighters across four factions and lists hero rebirth, auto-battle, alliance play, faction bonuses, and formation. Those roster and feature details are listing information as of that date and may change. The listing says: “Make the utmost of faction bonus and formation to conquer all modes.” This is promotional listing copy, not a named expert’s assessment.
Pocket Gamer’s tier list, updated September 2, 2026 for version 1.0.17, describes Saint Da Qiao as a healing and crowd-control support and Sun Luyu as a starting support with shields, Fury gain, and healing. Treat those role descriptions as useful context, but rankings and balance judgments are editorial opinions. They do not establish a universal best beginner team or a win-rate advantage.
