Short answer: there’s no verified “best” outcome. In Niles’s “Do More Harm” quest, you can keep the vault data from going public, release all of it, or—with Speech 14—release the skip-drive blueprint while withholding the Earth Directorate’s involvement. The walkthrough reports the same immediate reward, Niles’s Advanced Mod Kit, for the quest, but does not establish later ending or faction consequences.
What information is Zeb trying to release?
At the Tomb of the Matriarch, Zeb accesses vault data that reveals a deal between the Protectorate and the Earth Directorate: the Directorate supplied skip drives in exchange for leaving Arcadia alone. The data also indicates that the Matriarch did not create the skip drives and includes other information that could damage the Protectorate. The choice is whether, and how much of, that information becomes public.
“Do More Harm” follows Niles’s “Pressing Cares.” After progressing far enough and traveling to Praetor, Niles asks for help after receiving another message from Zeb. The two go to the tomb, where the disclosure decision takes place. The quest route and dialogue outcomes below are reported in NightlyGamingBinge’s “Do More Harm Companion Quest” walkthrough.
What happens with each choice?
| Choice | Information made public | Check or immediate reaction |
|---|---|---|
| Stop Zeb | The data stays contained. | Zeb gets angry and asks what you will do to stop him. Speech 9 can persuade him; otherwise, Niles can talk him down. |
| Release everything | All recovered information is shared, including the Earth Directorate deal. | Niles questions the order but ultimately follows it. |
| Release the blueprint only | The skip-drive blueprint is released, while the Directorate is left out of the disclosure. | Requires Speech 14. |
| Attack Zeb | This is an escalation rather than a straightforward disclosure choice. | Niles leaves the party and fights alongside Zeb against you. |
The quest concludes after the decision and awards Niles’s Advanced Mod Kit. The walkthrough does not report a different reward for any disclosure branch.

Which option should you choose?
- Choose secrecy if you want to keep the recovered information contained and avoid publicly naming the Directorate.
- Release everything if you want the full account of the deal and the other vault information made public.
- Choose the blueprint-only route if you want the skip-drive design disclosed but not the Directorate’s role; this requires Speech 14.
These are role-playing and disclosure preferences, not proven ways to secure a better ending. The available Neoseeker walkthrough also describes a release-versus-secrecy choice but does not confirm later outcomes. Treat any claim that a branch changes the ending or faction standing as unverified.

No branch-specific reward difference is reported: the walkthrough says the quest awards Niles’s Advanced Mod Kit after the decision, without identifying a variation tied to your choice. The game’s official Xbox page lists The Outer Worlds 2 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows and gives an October 29, 2025 release date.
