Start with one player whose role and skills fit how you want to play, focus your character-specific development resources there, then recruit teammates who complement that role. Street Rivals supports character development and 3-on-3 competition, but the official sources reviewed do not establish a universally best lineup or current tier list. Treat awakening and Hot Zones as tools to shape your approach, and check their current requirements and effects in-game before spending resources.
Choose a main player before spreading resources
Street Rivals is a basketball game based on the anime, with real-time online battles, 3-on-3 matches, character development, training, free games and story mode, according to its Google Play listing. That makes your first useful decision less about finding a supposedly unbeatable character and more about selecting a player whose role and usable skills suit your preferred way to play.
Match your starter to your play style
Think about what you want your main player to do in a match: create scoring chances, finish plays, support teammates or fill another role that fits your habits. Read the character’s in-game skills and descriptions, and choose someone whose abilities you can use reliably. The official materials cited here do not compare the current roster, so they cannot support a claim that one character is best for every player.
Concentrate early character-specific items
As a practical resource-management approach, develop the player you intend to use first rather than dividing scarce character-specific items across several options. This is advice for keeping your progression focused, not a confirmed rule or tested ranking. Official announcements document player-specific awakening cards and training items, but do not establish current costs or the most efficient investment order.

Add teammates to support your chosen role
Once you have a main player, look for teammates who cover needs that player does not meet or reinforce the way you want to play. In a 3-on-3 lineup, consider how the group can create and finish opportunities, support possession and respond to opponents. Those are lineup-planning considerations, not a mandatory role formula: the official descriptions confirm team competition, but do not prescribe a fixed composition.
- Pick teammates for a clear purpose rather than adding characters just because they are available.
- Check whether their skills work with the plays and opportunities you can execute.
- Before investing in another character, compare the in-game resource requirement with the benefit you expect for your lineup.
How awakening works—and what to check first
FIVECROSS’s December 27, 2023 Ver. 2.0.0 announcement describes awakening as a character progression system: it says awakening unlocks at user level 15, uses the character’s corresponding awakening card, teaches an awakening skill and increases stats. It also says duplicate player cards are converted into awakening cards for the corresponding player.

These are the rules described in that dated announcement, not a guarantee of the current unlock level, menu flow or costs. Before committing materials, open the relevant character’s current in-game progression screen and check:
- Whether awakening is available and what prerequisites it currently requires.
- Which character-specific card or other items are required.
- What skill and stat changes the awakening actually provides.
- Whether those effects support the role you chose for that player.
The same 2023 update introduced Camp Beta, including a summer camp where a three-player team plays automatically resolved matches. That announcement documents a mode at the time; check the game for its present availability and rules.

What Hot Zones do
In a March 19, 2025 announcement, FIVECROSS described the court as having large C, F and G areas, each divided into smaller areas. Entering an unlocked Hot Zone can grant a bonus, and developing Hot Zones can unlock season skills that players can use manually during matches.
Use the current season screen and in-game descriptions to decide whether a zone bonus or skill fits your plan. The announcement does not establish a best zone order, numerical effects or current development costs, so there is no evidence-based reason to prioritize one universally. Check what each available option does and whether you can make practical use of it in your matches.

Build a progression plan you can revise
- Pick your intended starter. Choose a role and skills that fit how you want to play, using the current character descriptions.
- Focus development. Direct character-specific resources toward that player while checking the current item requirements in-game.
- Fill lineup gaps. Add teammates whose skills complement your starter and your preferred way to approach 3-on-3.
- Review awakening before spending. Compare its displayed skill, stat changes and requirements with your player’s role.
- Check Hot Zones for the current season. Read the zone bonus and season-skill descriptions, then invest only where the effects suit your plan.
- Reassess when the game changes. New events, characters, costs and balance adjustments can alter what is available or useful.
FIVECROSS’s 2025 Hot Zone announcement also described a limited-time event whose player missions awarded a player and player-specific training cards or training notebooks. Those were event rewards at that time, not evidence that the same event or rewards are currently available.

The official site lists the game as free-to-play with some paid content, available on iOS and Android, and gives November 16, 2023 as its release date: FIVECROSS official site. Google Play showed July 14, 2026 as the app’s update date when its listing was reviewed. Store availability and app versions can vary by country and platform.

The dated publisher posts help explain awakening and Hot Zones, but they do not verify present-day competitive rankings, precise current resource costs, or which lineup wins most often. Use them to understand the documented systems; use the current in-game screens to make spending decisions. The progression priorities in this guide are general strategy, not the result of hands-on testing.
