Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection lets friends play classic Mortal Kombat online through hosted Online Arcade rooms. You can invite friends by sharing a room code, and crossplay is supported across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC—with one important exception: Mortal Kombat Trilogy does not support online crossplay on original Nintendo Switch consoles.
How to play classic Mortal Kombat online with friends
The current official option identified for online classic Mortal Kombat is Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a collection of classic arcade games and selected home versions. Atari describes shared online lobbies and Quick Play, while Digital Eclipse’s update notes explain how to host a room for friends.

- Each player should check that Legacy Kollection is available for their platform and confirm which version of the game they want to play.
- From the game’s online options, enable Krossplay if players are using different platforms. It is off by default.
- Host an Online Arcade room and share its unique room code with the friends you want to invite. They can use the code to join your room.
The room-code and Krossplay details are documented in Digital Eclipse’s official update notes. Quick Play is also available, but a hosted room with a shared code is the direct option for arranging a match with specific friends.
Which platforms can crossplay?
Atari lists PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC as platforms that can play together through Krossplay. The feature works in Quick Play and Online Arcade, but each player must enable it in Online Options. The PlayStation listing covers PS4 and PS5, and describes online battles with rollback netcode; that feature does not guarantee a particular connection quality for an individual match.

There is a specific compatibility exception: Mortal Kombat Trilogy cannot be played online through crossplay when running on original Nintendo Switch consoles, due to technical limitations. If your group wants that game and one player uses an original Switch, account for this restriction before buying or setting up the session. See the Digital Eclipse update notes for the exception and Atari’s collection page for the platform list.
