The Washington Commanders’ latest located depth chart, their unofficial Week 4 chart published September 29, 2026, lists Jayden Daniels first, Marcus Mariota second and Athan Kaliakmanis third. That order is separate from game availability: Washington ruled Daniels out against the Colts, with Mariota expected to start.
What is the Commanders’ quarterback depth chart?
The Week 4 unofficial chart lists the quarterbacks in this order:
- Jayden Daniels
- Marcus Mariota
- Athan Kaliakmanis
The Commanders’ weekly chart gives the team’s published order; it does not, by itself, confirm whether a player is healthy or available for a particular game. Washington’s Week 4 unofficial depth chart was published September 29, 2026.
Who was starting against the Colts?
Washington ruled Daniels out of its Week 4 game against Indianapolis. He dislocated his elbow in Week 2 against Dallas, and the team said he could return later in the season and would be reevaluated the following week. Mariota was expected to make his second start of the season. The team’s October 2 game-status report establishes his status for that Colts game, not for later weeks.

Mariota had replaced Daniels against Seattle, and the Commanders reported a 33–31 Washington win. His recent starting assignment did not change his second-place position on the published Week 4 chart. The team’s account of the Seattle game describes the relief appearance.
What do the roles of the other quarterbacks tell us?
Jayden Daniels
Daniels remained first on the published Week 4 chart, despite being ruled out for the Colts game. The chart position should not be read as evidence that he was available to play.

Marcus Mariota
Mariota was second on the chart and expected to start in Daniels’ absence. The team’s initial 2026 roster breakdown described him as Daniels’ primary backup and noted that he had started eight games in place of Daniels the previous season. Those preseason role notes provide background; the weekly chart is the newer published ordering. The Commanders’ initial roster breakdown gives that context.
Athan Kaliakmanis
Kaliakmanis was third on the Week 4 chart. The team’s initial roster breakdown said he would continue developing behind Daniels and Mariota.

How to tell who is listed from who can play
For a specific game, read the weekly depth chart and the team’s dated injury or game-status report as separate pieces of information. The chart describes nominal order; the status report addresses availability and expected assignments for that opponent. A backup starting a game does not, on its own, mean the published chart order has changed.
For Week 4 against Indianapolis, the supported distinction is clear: Daniels was listed first but ruled out, while second-listed Mariota was expected to start. The October 2 report said Daniels would be reevaluated the following week, so it does not establish his availability or the starter for any later game.
