Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Hunter Crest is the starting crest for Hornet. Its defining upgrade is Focus: after evolving the crest, consecutive successful strikes build Needle damage, but getting hit or resting at a Bench can erase that progress. The name also refers to unrelated places and entities, so this guide is specifically about the Silksong gameplay item.
What the Hunter Crest does
The Hunter Crest is the crest Hornet begins with, according to the game guide. In its base state it uses standard attacks and has no special Focus property. After evolution, it rewards strings of successful strikes with stronger Needle attacks.
How Focus works after evolution
The guide reports the following thresholds and damage multipliers for the evolved crest:
| Focus state | Reported strike threshold | Reported Needle damage |
|---|---|---|
| First tier | Six successful hits | 1.3× |
| Full focus, second tier | Six additional successful hits | 1.5× |
These are figures reported by the guide, not independently verified testing. Treat them as version-sensitive; game updates may change mechanics. The guide says Focus resets when Hornet takes damage or sits at a Bench, among other specific conditions, so maintaining the bonus depends on avoiding interruptions as well as landing attacks.

How to evolve the Hunter Crest
The guide places crest evolution with Eva at Weavenest Atla. It also describes additional progress requirements for the second evolution, but those detailed unlock conditions can depend on the current game version and state. Check Eva’s available dialogue and the game’s current requirements rather than assuming a fixed checklist applies to every playthrough.
When the Hunter Crest may suit you
The evolved crest can deliver high sustained Needle damage when Focus is maintained, as characterized by the guide. That makes it most appealing if you can land repeated strikes without being hit or forced to reset at a Bench. It is not enough evidence to call it the best crest overall: a fair comparison would also need to weigh each crest’s attack moveset and range, tool slots, special effects, resource generation, and how reliably its effect can be maintained.

Which “Hunter Crest” do you mean?
Outside Silksong, the same phrase appears in unrelated contexts: Hunter Crest Drive is a road in Hamilton County, Tennessee; Hunter Crest Twin Oaks, LLC appears in a Washington court opinion; and a heraldry page describes Clan Hunter arms. Those references do not establish a Silksong connection, a specific physical product, or an individual’s right to use heraldic arms.
