A “three-peat” means winning the championship in three consecutive seasons. In World Series history, four completed streaks have reached at least three titles in a row. The Dodgers’ attempt to add a fifth was still underway on October 1, 2026, when they began their title defense in the National League Division Series.
What does a Dodgers three-peat mean?
It would mean the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series for a third consecutive season. The club won the 2024 and 2025 championships, then entered the 2026 postseason seeking to complete the run. That pursuit was unresolved in MLB’s October 1, 2026 report, which described the Dodgers as opening their title defense in the NL Division Series (MLB.com, October 1, 2026).

MLB said no National League team had completed a three-peat through the date of that report. A 2026 Dodgers title would therefore make them the first National League franchise to win at least three World Series in a row (MLB.com, October 1, 2026).
How often has a team won at least three World Series in a row?
There have been four completed streaks of at least three consecutive World Series championships. They were achieved by just two franchises: the Yankees and the Athletics. MLB’s September 28, 2026 historical overview counts four such streaks (MLB.com, September 28, 2026).

| Franchise | Consecutive championship seasons | Length |
|---|---|---|
| New York Yankees | 1936–39 | Four titles |
| New York Yankees | 1949–53 | Five titles |
| Oakland Athletics | 1972–74 | Three titles |
| New York Yankees | 1998–2000 | Three titles |
The total is four streaks, not four instances of exactly three titles: the Yankees’ 1936–39 run lasted four seasons, and their 1949–53 run lasted five. The latter remains MLB’s longest championship streak (MLB.com, September 28, 2026).

Repeating as champion is difficult; extending a repeat to three straight titles is rarer still. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman put it this way: “We’ve seen how difficult it is to repeat. It’s even more difficult to do it three in a row.” (Associated Press, September 17, 2026)
MLB also reported that the Dodgers had made 14 consecutive postseason appearances, describing the streak as a record tie (MLB.com, October 1, 2026). That postseason run is separate from the World Series title streak: reaching October does not itself count as a championship.
