How to Pitch a Game Idea to PlayStation: What Indie Developers Need to Know

PlayStation does not offer a general public form for individual game ideas. Indie studios may have region-specific options, including the India and MENA Hero Projects, while feedback channels are not pitch routes.

There is no general public form for individuals to pitch an original game idea to PlayStation. The official avenues identified are player feedback and testing channels, which are not protected pitch routes, and selective regional programs for game studios with projects in development. If you have a game concept, do not send it through a feedback form assuming PlayStation will treat it as a confidential publishing proposal.

Can I send Sony a game idea?

The official PlayStation sources reviewed do not provide a general public intake channel for an individual to submit an original game concept. That distinction matters: a premise on its own is not the same as a studio presenting a game in development, and player-feedback channels are not publisher-pitch channels.

PlayStation Research recruits players for studies such as playtests and interviews. Its page says selection depends on whether a participant matches a study, and that ideas submitted through the process transfer to PlayStation, may not be implemented, and may not be paid. Read PlayStation Research’s terms before submitting anything original.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Software Usage Terms, dated October 2020, state: “We welcome your ideas and feedback on our services and products, but you must only provide us with your own ideas and feedback. By providing your ideas and feedback to us you transfer ownership of them to us, although we may or may not implement them. You will not get paid or receive any other compensation for your ideas or feedback.” Review the Software Usage Terms directly; terms may change.

Are PlayStation feedback and beta programs a way to pitch a game?

No. These channels are intended for players to help test or comment on PlayStation products and services, not for developers to submit a game for publishing consideration.

  • PlayStation Research: player studies, with selection based on study needs. Ideas submitted may transfer to SIE, may not be used, and may not be compensated.
  • PlayStation Beta Program: eligible account holders can express interest in testing games and features. Participation is voluntary and generally unpaid unless a specific offer says otherwise; selection is not guaranteed. Participants must live in an available region and meet local age requirements. Feedback and suggestions sent through the program transfer to SIE under its terms. Check the Beta Program terms and availability.

Before submitting any original material through a feedback or beta channel, read the current terms and consider whether you are comfortable with their ownership and compensation provisions. Neither route should be treated as a confidential pitch submission.

How can an indie studio approach PlayStation?

The official opportunities identified for game developers are region-specific programs intended for studios and projects, rather than open invitations for anyone to submit a bare concept. Two examples are the India Hero Project and MENA Hero Project. Both describe mentorship, internal resources and recoupable development funding; neither guarantees selection or a publishing deal. Eligibility and application status can change, so check the official page before preparing an application.

Program Who may be eligible What the page describes Publishing
India Hero Project India-based game developers with a legal entity in India and the ability to register as a PlayStation Registered Developer. Mentorship, access to SIE internal resources, recoupable development funding and visibility. The page describes a possibility of SIE publishing; it is not a promise of publication.
MENA Hero Project Developers in the eligible MENA countries listed on the official page, with a locally registered legal entity and the ability to register as a PlayStation Registered Developer. Mentorship, access to SIE internal resources, recoupable development funding and possible global program exposure. The FAQ says publishing is not included in the funding; opportunities may be discussed later on a case-by-case basis.

These programs are selective and geographically bounded. Read each page’s current eligible-country list, registration requirements and application status; do not assume that meeting one condition makes a project eligible.

What should a game pitch include?

For a studio application or publisher conversation, prepare a concise account of the game and the team’s ability to make it. This is practical preparation guidance, not a claim that every PlayStation opportunity requires the same materials.

  • A short description of the game, intended audience and target platform.
  • The core gameplay loop and what makes the experience distinctive.
  • Visual direction, supported where possible by representative art or footage.
  • Team credentials and relevant experience.
  • A production plan and budget.
  • A playable prototype or build, if available.

A developed project gives a prospective partner more to assess than an isolated premise: the game’s feel, scope and execution become easier to evaluate. The Hero Project pages describe support for developers and projects, not a route for a person to submit only an idea.

Is PlayStation’s licensing program for game pitches?

No. The Official Licensing Program is for companies proposing officially licensed PlayStation peripherals or accessories—not game concepts. Its process discusses company background, product lines, differentiation, due diligence, concept review, development validation and commercial terms. Submissions must be in English, and the page warns that submitted information becomes the sole property of SIE. See the Official Licensing Program if your proposal is for hardware or an accessory.

Do past PlayStation pitch stories provide a current submission route?

No. A historical PlayStation.Blog article by Phil Harrison described projects beginning with studios, including external developers, and moving from a basic idea to an overall concept before internal feedback. It shows that external studio relationships have existed, but it does not provide a current submission address or open application process. Read the historical article as context, not current instructions.

A 2017 PlayStation.Blog case study describes Drinkbox Studios creating a one-page design document for the concept that became Guacamelee!, combining it with other gameplay ideas and making a target gameplay video. That is one studio’s account of concept development—not a universal PlayStation pitch format or evidence that a similar submission will be accepted. Read the Guacamelee! case study.
