ORBIT’s RetroAchievements feature connects a physical PS2 to a PC or server running xeRAbora on the same home network. ORBIT identifies the game, displays achievement information in its Circle menu, and runs an in-game agent that streams game memory to xeRAbora, which reports unlocks to your RetroAchievements profile. It is an emerging, game-dependent setup—not a standard RetroArch or PCSX2 sign-in flow.
What you need
- A physical PS2 running ORBIT, with a way to start
launcher.elfthrough uLaunchELF or FreeMcBoot. - A USB drive formatted as FAT32 or exFAT for the baseline ORBIT installation.
- A PC or server on your home network running xeRAbora.
- A game supported by the feature; the author says real-hardware achievement unlocking is still being tested on more games.
These requirements describe the setup in ORBIT’s author announcement dated October 4, 2026: ORBIT announcement.
Set up and launch ORBIT
- Unzip ORBIT onto a FAT32- or exFAT-formatted USB drive.
- Put your game images in the drive’s
DVD/directory. - Start
launcher.elffrom uLaunchELF, or configure it to launch through FreeMcBoot autoboot. - On its first boot, ORBIT creates a commented
config.inicontaining its settings.
The announcement establishes these baseline launch steps, but not the specific configuration keys or values for RetroAchievements.
Connect the achievement bridge
Run xeRAbora on a PC or server at home. When ORBIT identifies a game using its rcheevos hash, it can show achievements and progress in the Circle menu. ORBIT also runs a small agent inside the game; that agent streams game memory over the home network to xeRAbora, which then unlocks achievements on your profile.

#1 Best Overall
- The Playstation 2 system lets you play original PS1 games as well as the huge selection of PS2 games
- Includes: Playstation 2 System, 1 Dual Shock 2 Controller, AC Cable, AV Cable
- Color: Black
- PlayStation2 is equipped with a 128-bit Emotion Engine processor that enables lightning-fast gameplay and impressive graphics power
The author announcement links a written guide and video, but the exact xeRAbora installation steps, ports, login procedure, and ORBIT configuration were not established in the announcement. Check the current project guide for those details rather than guessing settings.
Network loading and achievement reporting are different
For network game loading, the author says Neutrino’s UDP transport does not tolerate Wi-Fi packet loss and calls for a cable at both ends. That warning applies to the described network-loading mode. The announcement says the achievement agent uses the home network, but does not establish that achievement reporting by itself always requires wired connections.

Expect game-by-game limits
ORBIT’s author describes real-hardware achievement unlocking as still being tested on more games. A working connection therefore does not guarantee that every PS2 title will identify correctly or unlock achievements. The announcement does not provide a complete compatibility list.

If you want achievements while playing on a physical console, ORBIT’s described method is the relevant path. RetroAchievements separately lists ARMSX2, PCSX2, and XBSX2 as standalone PS2 emulators; its downloads page lists PCSX2 for Windows, Linux, and macOS. These emulator options are distinct from ORBIT’s PS2-side agent and xeRAbora bridge.

RetroAchievements’ download page and emulator support page provide the current emulator information. Its unsupported-emulators list marks AetherSX2, LRPS2, and Play! as unsupported PS2 options; check the current list before choosing an emulator path.
Android is another separate route: on April 2, 2025, RetroAchievements Community Manager Nepiki announced official NetherSX2 support from version 1.8. See the NetherSX2 support announcement and recheck its current status if you plan to use it.

RetroAchievements notes in its FAQ that “In many cases support for a console is dictated by the emulator/core developer and is outside RetroAchievements’ control.” That explains why emulator support depends on the software path; it does not change the separate requirements of ORBIT’s real-console method.

Best Value
- Original PS2 Console in Black
- Power Cable
- A/V Composite Cables for connecting to your TV
- 2 New Wireless Aftermarket Controllers
- 2 New Controller Receiver Dongles
Choose the route that fits your setup
- Choose ORBIT if you want to play on a physical PS2 and can run xeRAbora on a PC or server at home.
- Choose PCSX2 if you prefer a separately documented PS2 emulator path and can use a supported desktop platform.
- Verify game support first if a specific title is essential: ORBIT’s announcement does not establish universal compatibility, and the detailed ORBIT-to-xeRAbora configuration steps should be checked in the current project guide.
