The safest way to handle the Clown (also called the Beamer) in R.E.P.O. is to dodge its laser, jump as it draws back for a kick, and keep valuable scrap out of the beam’s path. If you lack weapons or strength, prioritize getting away or using cover rather than trying to kill it. These timings and attack details come from player guides, not confirmed official current-version documentation; Steam lists the game as Early Access, so mechanics may change.
How the Clown attacks
The Clown is a fast, loud enemy whose heavy footsteps can help alert you to its approach. A community monster encyclopedia describes its main attack as a horizontal laser that can destroy scrap, followed by a kick while the laser is on cooldown. A Steam Community guide also describes a laser-and-kick sequence. Treat the sequence and its timing as reported tactics rather than guaranteed behavior in every build.
The Steam Community guide reports 250 HP, 100 damage from the laser, and 60 damage from the kick; these are guide-reported figures, not official current stats. The encyclopedia likewise reports 100 damage for the laser but does not give a kick damage figure.
How to dodge the laser
Watch the beam’s height and choose your movement accordingly. The Steam guide says the laser tracks the targeted player’s head level; its suggested responses are:

- Beam aimed low: jump over it.
- Beam at your level: crouch beneath it.
- Beam aimed high: do not jump into its path; stay clear of the beam.
The encyclopedia also recommends crouching beneath the laser if you time it correctly. Since neither source is official documentation, use the beam’s actual height and the space around you as your cues rather than relying on a fixed timing that may vary by build.
How to avoid the kick
According to the Steam guide, jump when the Clown pulls its foot back to kick. Look for that wind-up rather than waiting until it has already lunged. The guide also describes repeatedly jumping in place as a way to keep the Clown occupied while teammates escape. That is a risky distraction tactic, not a safe default: use it only if the team needs an opening and the person drawing attention can afford to stay close.

Choose between escaping, using cover, and fighting
| Approach | What it involves | Risk and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Dodge and leave | Read the laser height, evade it, jump the kick wind-up, and create distance. | Best default when unequipped; the beam can still threaten nearby players and scrap. |
| Use cover or a high ledge | The encyclopedia recommends non-destructible cover and baiting the laser from a high ledge it says the Clown cannot jump onto. | Depends on the room having suitable terrain; keep cargo out of the beam’s path. |
| Fight directly | The encyclopedia suggests attacking during the post-laser stun. The Steam guide says the Clown is difficult to kill without weapons or strength. | Requires combat resources and exposes the team to its attacks; no source establishes a guaranteed kill method. |
| Use another monster | The Steam guide suggests letting another monster, such as a Banger, damage the Clown; it also notes that the laser can hit other monsters. | Situational and unpredictable: the other monster and the beam can create additional danger for the team. |
Protect the loot and your teammates
The encyclopedia says the laser can destroy scrap, so move valuable cargo away from the Clown’s line of fire before trying to bait or fight it. In a group, call out the target and beam direction so teammates do not cross the attack path while escaping. If there is no safe opening to attack, getting clear with the loot intact is a better outcome than forcing a kill.
