Choose your Ace Combat 8 loadout around the mission, not a supposedly universal “best” jet: read the objective and briefing, match your aircraft to the targets, select a special weapon for the main threat, then tune the aircraft with upgrade parts. Revisit that setup when the mission, difficulty, or your unlocked aircraft changes.
Start with the mission objective and briefing
First identify what the sortie asks you to do. Ace Combat 8’s official guidance describes missions involving dogfights, air support for ground troops, and attacks on seaborne threats. Those objectives call for different priorities. A briefing can provide intelligence to help you decide which targets matter and what special weapon may be useful. Read the official game overview and walkthrough.
- Hostile aircraft: Prioritize a fighter with capabilities suited to air-to-air engagements.
- Ground forces: Look for an aircraft and special weapon suited to air-to-ground work.
- Naval targets: Consider the briefing’s seaborne threats and the air-to-ground options available in your aircraft’s loadout.
- Mixed targets: Weigh broad target coverage against the advantages of a more specialized aircraft.
Choose an aircraft for the targets and role
Compare the aircraft available to you by mission role, target coverage, maneuverability, and long-range capability where relevant. The aircraft’s published role and the options shown in the current in-game loadout menu are more useful than a general ranking divorced from the mission.
When a multirole aircraft makes sense
Bandai Namco describes the Rafale M as a multirole carrier aircraft suited to air superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, and air support. Its description notes long-range air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions as well as close-combat capability. That makes it an example to consider when a sortie has varied demands—not proof that it is the best choice for every mission. See the official aircraft roster.

Select a special weapon for the key threat
Once you have chosen an aircraft, treat its special weapon as the mission-specific decision. Use the briefing to identify the target group or threat that most needs attention, then select an option actually available for that aircraft in the game. The official guidance recommends assessing the situation and choosing special weapons, but it does not establish a complete compatibility list, weapon damage values, or slot counts. Check the current in-game loadout display for those details.
Tune the aircraft with upgrade parts
Use upgrade parts to tailor the selected fighter to the sortie and your playstyle. Bandai Namco’s walkthrough says parts can be combined to build a fighter for each mission. Reconsider the combination when the objective or expected challenge changes, rather than assuming one setup will suit every sortie. The available official material does not establish exact part effects or a best-in-slot configuration, so use the descriptions and options shown in your current game.

Factor in difficulty, controls, and progression
Difficulty and control comfort
Difficulty can change what you need from a loadout. Bandai Namco Europe says Veteran difficulty can make missiles harder to shake and make damage recovery more dependent on loadout. The official guide also presents Standard and Expert controls as different approaches; its difficulty page says Expert controls allow a wider range of maneuvers. Aircraft you have unlocked
Additional aircraft unlock with MRP earned in missions. If a desired jet is not available, choose the best fit among the aircraft you currently have rather than delaying a suitable sortie setup. The official materials reviewed do not give a verified optimal unlock order or aircraft prices.

A practical loadout decision sequence
- Read the briefing: Identify the primary objective and whether the threats are aircraft, ground forces, naval targets, or a mixture.
- Choose an available aircraft: Match its stated role and capabilities to that target mix. For mixed demands, consider a multirole option without assuming it is automatically superior.
- Pick a special weapon: Select from the options available for that aircraft, prioritizing the threat or target group identified in the briefing.
- Fit upgrade parts: Tailor the aircraft to the mission and the challenge you expect, using the in-game part information.
- Adjust for your settings: Consider difficulty and whether Standard or Expert controls fit your approach.
- Reassess next sortie: Change the setup when objectives, threats, available aircraft, or your needs change.
What the available guidance does—and does not—establish
Bandai Namco’s official materials support choosing by mission objective, aircraft role, special-weapon options, upgrade parts, difficulty, and player preference. They do not establish a universal best aircraft, verified optimal mission-by-mission builds, complete weapon statistics, all aircraft-and-weapon compatibility, or a tested performance ranking.
