No. You can buy a PS5 game at an ordinary PlayStation Store sale price without PlayStation Plus. Plus is relevant when a specific offer is marked as member-only or gives subscribers an extra discount. Check the game’s current listing for your country before subscribing or buying.
When you do—and don’t—need PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus is not a general requirement for buying discounted PS5 games on PlayStation Store. PlayStation describes exclusive discounts as a membership benefit, rather than making Plus a condition of every Store sale. A standard sale price is available without Plus unless the listing says otherwise.

Some offers are restricted to subscribers, and members may also get an additional saving on a game that is already on sale. PlayStation’s US FAQ describes these as exclusive discounts and says subscribers can often save extra on already discounted titles: PlayStation Plus FAQ.
Which PlayStation Plus plans include exclusive discounts?
PlayStation lists exclusive discounts on selected games and add-ons as a benefit of Essential, Extra, and Premium on its US membership page. The page does not state that you need a higher tier for this benefit: PlayStation Plus plans and benefits. The specific offers available to you can depend on your country and account, so confirm the terms shown in your Store.

How to check whether a PS5 discount is member-only
- Open the game’s PlayStation Store listing while signed in to the account you would use to buy it.
- Check the displayed price and offer terms. Look for wording that identifies a PlayStation Plus or subscriber-only price, and compare it with any standard sale price shown.
- Note the offer’s end date and whether it applies to your country and account status. PlayStation says offers can vary by country and subscriber status, and can change or be time-limited: US PlayStation Plus Usage Terms.
- If you would need to subscribe to get the offer, compare the actual discount with the membership fee you would pay. Plus renews for a recurring fee until cancelled; a single discounted game does not necessarily make a subscription worthwhile. See PlayStation’s US membership information for current plan details.
Check the offer’s timing and location
A PlayStation Store price is not guaranteed to remain available after a promotion ends. PlayStation’s terms say promotional prices cease to apply if an offer is changed or removed, or once its stated end date or time has passed: US PlayStation Plus Usage Terms. Use the live listing rather than relying on an old deal announcement.
Some promotions also include participating retailers, so a deal may be available outside PlayStation Store. For example, PlayStation’s 2026 Days of Play announcement described offers across the Store and participating retailers and directed shoppers to local deals because offers vary: Days of Play 2026 announcement. That dated promotion is not evidence of a current offer; check the retailer and local terms for any deal you find.
