If a Mexico mod is not working in Red Dead Redemption 2, first identify exactly which mod you installed. A Nuevo Paraíso map project, a minimap add-on and the Mexico Expansion Project have different requirements and instructions, so there is no single fix for every “Mexico mod” problem. Check the mod’s current page, then verify its dependencies and install locations before changing files.
Identify the mod and the symptom
Write down the mod’s exact name, version, download page and the problem you see. For example: the game will not launch, Mexico is absent, the minimap does not show Mexico, objects are missing, a barrier blocks access, or a train has not appeared. Those symptoms can point to different causes.

Three distinct projects illustrate why the name matters:
- Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod WIP is an early-access, unfinished project that transfers part of Red Dead Redemption’s Nuevo Paraíso map into RDR2. Its page was last updated October 19, 2023.
- Mexico on Minimap changes the minimap to show Nuevo Paraíso. Its listed version is 2.1, last updated March 11, 2024.
- The Mexico Expansion Project page is explicitly marked outdated and links to a newer version at Nexus Mods mod 6268. Check that newer page before installing, removing or modifying files; the older page does not establish the newer version’s detailed compatibility requirements.
Also check the installed game edition and build against the mod’s current page. The available instructions do not establish one universal game-version, launcher or graphics-API requirement for every Mexico mod.

Check the exact mod’s prerequisites
Do not combine requirements from different projects. Use the list on the page for the mod you installed, and check for any stated conflicts or exclusions.

Requirements and instructions may change, so recheck the current page linked above rather than relying on an old download description.
Verify the files are in the right place
A mod can have all its prerequisites installed and still fail if its files are misplaced or nested one folder too deep. Follow the mod’s own installation steps; a ZIP’s contents do not all necessarily belong in the same location.

- Find the game’s root folder: the installation folder containing
RDR2.exe. The RDR2 Comprehensive Modding Guide uses this definition of the game root. - Compare the extracted files with the mod’s instructions. The older Mexico Expansion Project page says to move its
lmlfolder and.asifiles to the game root. Do not assume that instruction applies to a different Mexico mod. - For Lenny’s Mod Loader files, check the directory structure the specific mod expects. Confirm that its files are inside the intended LML structure, not an extra folder created when extracting an archive.
- If the download includes a mod-manager file or gives a special procedure, follow that instead of moving every file manually.
The guide distinguishes root-level .asi script mods from LML asset-replacement mods; the two types do not imply one universal install layout.
Isolate conflicts with a clean baseline
If the files and prerequisites look correct, remove other mods from the diagnosis. The Nuevo Paraiso page recommends starting with a clean game and only that project’s requirements installed. Confirm whether the expected effect appears, then restore other mods in small batches. If the problem returns after adding a batch, narrow it down among those additions. This is a diagnostic method, not a guaranteed fix.
The general RDR2 modding guide notes that mods can be incompatible and discusses managing load order for conflicts. Follow the relevant mod pages’ directions when changing load order or excluding files; a load-order adjustment is not a universal remedy.

Match the fix to what is failing
Mexico or its map content is missing
Confirm that you installed a map mod—not just a minimap add-on—and that its current dependencies and files are present in the locations its page specifies. A minimap change alone does not establish that the Mexico world area has been added.
Mexico is missing from the minimap
For Mexico on Minimap, check for ScriptHookRDR2 and Lenny’s Mod Loader, then verify that the supplied lml folder is in the game directory as its page instructs.

The older project page says it uses vanilla trains travelling from New Austin and does not spawn trains in Mexico itself. Allow time for a train to make the journey before treating its absence as an installation failure. This behavior is specific to that project’s documentation.

The railway looks doubled
The same page says an older railway file can create a duplicate. It names RedDeadRedemption2/lml/!Mexico/YMAP/rr.ymap as the previous railway file to consider removing. Verify that this advice applies to your installed version before deleting anything.
The game crashes or reports errors
Recheck the exact mod page and its requirements first, particularly if you are using the outdated Mexico Expansion Project page. That page does not give a universal crash fix. It asks users to contact the mod author, listed as Rixus724, after confirming the requirements are installed correctly.
When the usual checks do not help
When asking for help, include the exact mod and version, its current download page, your game edition and build, the symptom, and which stated requirements you installed. This makes it possible to distinguish a loader or file-placement problem from a conflict or behavior the mod documents. Do not transfer a fix from one Mexico project to another unless that project’s own instructions support it.
