If the Game Catalog is your main reason for subscribing, PlayStation Plus Extra is the tier to consider: both Extra and Premium include it. Premium costs more and adds the Classics Catalog, limited-time trials for select games, and cloud streaming for eligible titles in supported regions. Choose Premium only if you expect to use one or more of those extras.

PlayStation’s US plan comparison lists these benefits; availability and terms may differ by region. Its catalog and membership FAQ says Extra includes Essential benefits plus downloadable Game Catalog access. Premium includes games from Essential and Extra, with download or streaming available for eligible titles. Many PS3 Classics Catalog games are streaming-only.

Choose Extra if the Game Catalog is what you want
You do not need Premium just to access the Game Catalog. If the games you want are in the current catalog and you are happy to download them, Extra covers that purpose. Before subscribing, look up each target game in your local catalog: lineups vary and can change, and some games display an end date.
Choose Premium for the additions you will actually use
Classics Catalog
Premium adds the Classics Catalog. Check whether the specific older games you want are included; the tier is not automatically better value just because you enjoy classic games.

Limited-time game trials
Premium offers trials for select games, for a limited time. Trials are not available for every game, so check a game’s listing if trying it before purchase is important to you.
Cloud streaming
Premium supports streaming for eligible games on supported devices and in supported regions. PlayStation lists a minimum of 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download to establish a PS5 or PlayStation Portal streaming session. That is a connection minimum, not a promise of smooth performance; title eligibility also applies. See PlayStation’s cloud-streaming requirements and verify that the games and devices you plan to use are supported.

Sony Pictures Catalog
The US plan comparison also lists the Sony Pictures Catalog as a Premium benefit. Check local availability and current content before counting it toward the value of your subscription.

Compare the current recurring price in your region with the Premium features you expect to use. A catalog game is a membership benefit, not a permanent purchase: access to Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles depends on an active corresponding membership, and games can leave the service. PlayStation says some titles show an end date.

Make the choice in two checks
- Find the specific games you want in your regional PlayStation Plus catalog and check for any listed end date.
- Compare your local Extra and Premium prices. Pick Extra if the Game Catalog is enough; pick Premium if its Classics Catalog, trials, eligible streaming, or Sony Pictures benefit is worth the added cost to you.
