The current Red Dead Redemption 2 Mexico mod is Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier, version 1.2. Its listing requires Lenny’s Mod Loader to load the mod and Script Hook RDR2 to load its ASI files. Older Mexico mod pages describe different releases, so don’t use their requirements or file instructions as a checklist for this one.
Which RDR2 Mexico mod should you install?
“Mexico mod” can mean more than one project. The current listing is Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier, credited to Mexico Team and uploaded by Rixus724. Its version 1.2 listing says it restores classic Red Dead Redemption locations in Nuevo Paraiso in a 1907 setting; the page lists 17 September 2026 as its upload and latest update date.
Two older pages can cause confusion:
- Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod WIP: The 2023 WIP entry describes itself as early access and unfinished. Its requirements belong to that separate release.
- Mexico Expansion Project: The older project page is marked outdated and directs readers to Forgotten Frontier. Its old file and railroad instructions apply to that expansion build, not automatically to version 1.2.
For a new installation, use the current Forgotten Frontier listing and follow its files and instructions. Don’t remove or move files just because an old tutorial for another project says to do so.
What are the requirements for the RDR2 Mexico mod?
The current version 1.2 page identifies two mandatory components and two additional utilities. Check the mod’s current requirements section before installing: mod versions and requirements can change.

The distinction between the loaders explains why the listing calls for both LML and Script Hook support. A general RDR2 modding guide describes LML as handling asset replacements and Script Hook as enabling custom scripts. The game’s root folder means the installation directory containing the game executable; use the current mod page for the exact files and installation directions.
How do you install Nuevo Paraiso?
Use the current Main release and treat the mod page as authoritative for its file-specific steps. A safe high-level sequence is:

- Open the Forgotten Frontier page and confirm you are downloading the current Main release, version 1.2 as listed on 17 September 2026, rather than the older WIP or Mexico Expansion Project files.
- Check the requirements section on that page. Install LML and a supported Script Hook option as directed there; don’t assume the older projects’ lists apply.
- Locate the RDR2 game root, the folder containing the game executable. Follow the current mod’s instructions for placing files and preserve a copy of any files you replace.
- Start the game and note what happens. Record the game build, mod version, installed loader versions, graphics API, and the exact error or point where loading stops before changing other components.
The 2023 WIP page lists LML V11, Script Hook, Rampage Trainer, a legal copy of the game, and an ASI Loader. That is a legacy list for its unfinished early-access entry, not a verified requirements checklist for Forgotten Frontier 1.2.
Does Nuevo Paraiso work with OCU or LITE?
The current requirements listing does not establish OCU or LITE compatibility. In the discussion, one commenter says OCU should work and describes LITE as a trimmed-down OCU, but that is community advice rather than a compatibility statement from the mod author. If you use either setup, treat it as unconfirmed and check for conflicts if the mod fails to load.

Why does RDR2 get stuck loading after installing the Mexico mod?
Infinite loading screens appear in user reports, but the discussion does not establish one universal cause or fix. One commenter reported that switching from DX12 to Vulkan resolved the issue; another said they had encountered it with Vulkan too and associated the problem with heavily modded setups. These are individual experiences, not guaranteed remedies.

- Verify that the installed files are for Forgotten Frontier, not the WIP or outdated expansion project.
- Confirm LML and Script Hook are installed and configured according to their current instructions.
- Record your exact game build, mod version, loader versions, and whether the game is using DX12 or Vulkan.
- If you have many mods, temporarily isolate likely conflicts and test again. The mod listing suggests Sir Joseph’s LML Startup Crash Fix for setups with many mods, but that suggestion is not a confirmed fix for every loading failure.
- Only consider changing the graphics API if your system and game settings support it; test one change at a time so you can identify whether it affected the result.
Are the bridges, towns, NPCs, and trains supposed to work?
Questions about visible map bridges, town NPCs, and trains appear in the community discussion, but individual posts do not confirm intended behavior or guarantee that each feature functions in every setup. Check the current mod description and changelog for what the release claims to include; don’t treat a screenshot or another player’s report as proof that a specific feature works on your installation.
Is the old Mexico Expansion Project still supported?
Its page is explicitly marked outdated and points to the Forgotten Frontier listing. The old page’s file-removal and railroad instructions are tied to that older expansion build; don’t apply them to the current mod unless you are deliberately maintaining that older installation.

Rixus724 wrote on 17 September 2026 that the team had published a “more Stable but stripped down version” in response to feedback, which they hoped would fix all or most reported issues. That is the uploader’s description of the release, not evidence that every bug has been resolved. The materials reviewed do not establish a compatibility percentage, performance estimate, or bug rate.
