To complete The Twisted Tree as Yasuke, start the Inside Help sequence through Ujimasa at Kiyomizudera Temple, track down the seven Takahashi family members, then return to Ujimasa. For the most controlled route, deal with Taro, Jiro, Saburo and Shiro before their father Inoshichi. Goro and Ichi-Hime can be spared; confronting Inoshichi early is reported to spare them automatically, but can trigger a larger fight.
How to start The Twisted Tree
- Meet Ujimasa at Kiyomizudera Temple. This is part of the Inside Help sequence.
- Help the umbrella merchant. Ujimasa sends you to the merchant, reported west of Nijo Palace; helping him starts the Takahashi objective.
- Track the seven targets. Keep the objective board open and use its clues with the map markers. Guide descriptions of nearby landmarks differ, so follow the active in-game marker if a named location does not match.
- Return to Ujimasa after the objective. Guides report a reward for this return, including the Yamazaki Castle Gate Key, which opens the inner gate on the route to Ise Sadaoki.
Walkthroughs classify the objective differently—some place it among side quests, while others connect it directly to Act 2 story progress. The shared practical sequence is the Inside Help contact, the merchant, the seven targets and the return to Ujimasa.

Where to find the seven Takahashi targets
Use the following locations as landmark clues rather than substitutes for the objective board. Published guides do not describe every target’s location identically.

Which Takahashi should you deal with first?
Controlled route: handle the four sons before Inoshichi
GameSpot reports that Taro, Jiro, Saburo and Shiro are likely to seek revenge if their father dies first. For a more controlled sequence of encounters, handle those four before targeting Inoshichi. This avoids choosing the early-patriarch route and gives you the opportunity to make the sparing decision deliberately.
Early Inoshichi route: accept a potentially larger fight
Alo Japan reports that killing Inoshichi early completes later clue objectives automatically and automatically spares Goro and Ichi-Hime. GameSpot warns that the four sons may seek revenge if their father dies first, so this route can lead to a larger confrontation. Choose it if you prefer to resolve the patriarch first and accept that response.

Can you spare anyone?
Yes. Goro and Ichi-Hime are the two family members described as sparable. If you want to decide their outcomes through the individual encounters, use the controlled route and leave Inoshichi until after Taro, Jiro, Saburo and Shiro. The reported automatic sparing of Goro and Ichi-Hime applies to the early-Inoshichi outcome; it is not a reason to assume every target has the same choice.

PlayStation’s official gameplay preview presents Yasuke as a direct-combat character and shows him using a naginata and teppo, a single-shot rifle. That context suits the quest’s encounter-focused choices, but it does not establish a required weapon or a quest-specific winning tactic.

- Keep the objective board and local map marker in view between encounters, especially where guide landmarks conflict.
- Plan the order before confronting Inoshichi: the controlled sequence reduces the risk of the revenge response described for his sons.
- Choose a loadout you are comfortable using in direct combat; the preview’s naginata and teppo are examples, not requirements.

Rewards and what to verify in-game
Reward figures differ by guide and may refer to different stages or scopes. Gamer Guides reports 1,000 XP and the Yamazaki Castle Gate Key for returning to Ujimasa; Alo Japan reports 5,000 XP for mission completion. GameSpot lists individual weapon and engraving rewards, including Inoshichi’s legendary amulet, Kitsune’s Trickery, and the legendary Health for Samurai Mastery engraving. Check the in-game reward screen for the exact XP total and item drops on your playthrough rather than treating either XP figure as a universal total.
