What did Sony’s June 2025 State of Play reveal about Nioh 3?
Sony’s June 4, 2025 event recap listed Nioh 3 among the show’s reveals and described it as a dark fantasy action RPG with two distinct styles that players can switch between during combat. Sony’s State of Play recap and Team Ninja producer Fumihiko Yasuda’s dedicated PlayStation announcement were published that day.

The announcement placed the story in Japan’s Sengoku period, a time of political upheaval, and described the protagonist as a young warrior poised to become the next shogun. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja presented the new style system as a central part of the game’s combat.
How do the Samurai and Ninja styles differ?
Samurai
Samurai was presented as the style closest to the approach of earlier Nioh games, with new options including Arts Proficiency and a last-moment Deflect. These additions were part of the original reveal’s description, not a claim that the style is identical to any earlier entry.

Ninja
Ninja emphasizes speed, dodging and aerial actions. Koei Tecmo Europe also described Ninja techniques including Mist and Evade. Players can change styles instantly or commit to one style, allowing the system to support different approaches to a fight.
Is the Nioh 3 State of Play demo still available?
No. The free alpha demo announced at the reveal was exclusive to PS5 and ran from June 4 through June 18, 2025. It offered an early look at the game, including an in-progress character-creation system; players who cleared it were promised a helmet for the full game. The window and reward were described by Koei Tecmo Europe.

That alpha should not be confused with the separate demo released on January 29, 2026. The later demo was available for PS5 and Steam, supported save carryover and allowed online play for up to three players, according to Koei Tecmo’s Nioh 3 launch information.

At reveal, the stated release window was early 2026. The later launch announcement confirmed February 6, 2026, as the actual release date. The game is available on PS5 and Windows PC via Steam.

How did the announcement fit the Nioh series?
At the time of the reveal, Koei Tecmo Holdings Inc.’s July 2025 financial briefing described the Nioh series as having sold more than eight million copies. In February 2026, Koei Tecmo America reported that Nioh 3 had passed one million worldwide sales and called it the fastest one-million milestone in franchise history; the same announcement put series sales above ten million.
