Bethesda’s July 16, 2025 Update 1.2 notes list fixes for frame-rate drops in four locations, fewer open-world hitches and broader frame-time improvements. Those are documented changes, not a promise of a particular FPS gain: post-patch testing summarized by GamesRadar found core performance issues broadly similar on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What Update 1.2 says it improves
Bethesda Game Studios said Update 1.2 would roll out to all platforms on July 16, 2025, and described it as focused on quest, gameplay and performance fixes. The official patch notes identify four specific locations where frame-rate drops were fixed:
- Deepscorn Hollow
- Black Rock Caverns
- Between Skingrad and Skingrad Castle
- South of Bravil Castle courtyard
The same performance section says the update reduced the frequency of open-world hitches and delivered general frame-time improvements in many locations. Bethesda also lists optimizations to character attachments, open-world water rendering, light and shadow updates in several lairs, waterfall particles and rendering, the weather system, and character animation. The notes do not quantify the effects of these changes.
Did Update 1.2 fix stuttering or improve performance in practice?
Not conclusively, based on the reported testing available here. GamesRadar’s summary of Digital Foundry testing says inconsistent frame rates, frame-time shifts and visual issues remained broadly similar after the update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That finding does not show that every individual fix had no effect in its intended location, but it does not support calling Update 1.2 a definitive performance fix.

Bethesda’s notes describe the work the studio says it made; the test summary reports what was observed on two console families. Neither source establishes how every location, platform or PC configuration behaved. No named before-and-after FPS figure, percentage gain or benchmark table is provided, so a numerical performance uplift cannot be stated.
Other notable changes in the patch
Update 1.2 was a broad fix update, not only a performance patch. It added a six-step player/enemy combat-damage setting:

- Master
Bethesda describes Journeyman as an option between Adept and Expert. The remaining notes include quest progression and pathing fixes, UI and audio changes, and system and stability work. Examples include fixes for disappearing map markers, several GPU and autosave crashes, long fast-travel loads, XeSS shadow flickering, PC-to-Xbox settings migration, shader preloading and a long loading-screen blackout.

Update 1.2 is the July 2025 update; it should not be confused with the separate Switch 2 Patch 1.1, whose Bethesda notes are dated September 17, 2026 and cover fixes for that platform.
Rank #3
In a statement reported by PC Gamer on August 11, 2026, Bethesda said it was looking into bringing some optimizations from the Switch 2 version to other platforms and would share more when able. That signals investigation, not a confirmed cross-platform patch or release schedule. The game’s platform context has also expanded since Update 1.2; Bethesda’s current game page includes Switch 2 news and purchase links.
