If you want the closest follow-up to The Simpsons Game, play The Simpsons: Hit & Run: it trades the 2007 game’s character-based action and gaming jokes for a larger Springfield to explore, driving, and mission-based adventure. For a shorter driving loop, choose The Simpsons Road Rage; for another story-led game with character abilities and genre parody, stay with The Simpsons Game. These are legacy releases, so a recommendation is not a guarantee that a copy is available for your current console.
Which Simpsons game should you play next?
Choose by what you want to carry over from The Simpsons Game. The strongest all-around follow-up is Hit & Run if Springfield exploration and driving appeal; the 2007 game itself is the closer match for story, character abilities, and jokes about video games. Road Rage narrows the focus to arcade driving, while The Simpsons Arcade Game is built around cooperative beat-’em-up action.

1. The Simpsons: Hit & Run — best for a bigger Springfield
Hit & Run is the natural next choice if the part you want more of is moving around Springfield and getting into trouble along the way. Its action-adventure structure, vehicle-based missions, and broader explorable setting make it a better fit for that appetite than the more focused driving loop in Road Rage.

It originally appeared on PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and Windows. Treat it as a legacy release: the cited platform records do not establish a modern release or current availability, so check the exact platform and region before looking for a copy.
2. The Simpsons Game — best for story and gaming jokes
If what you liked was the 2007 game’s family-centered story, playable-character abilities, and self-aware parody of other game genres, it remains the closest match to that experience. Its design premise was that the Simpsons know they are inside a video game, giving the writers an opening to spoof game-industry conventions. In a contemporaneous GameSpot interview published October 2, 2007, executive producer Scott A. described the concept as the Simpsons being “self-aware that they are inside a video game.”
The game had versions for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP, and Nintendo DS. Those versions are not interchangeable: check which platform a listing covers and whether you have compatible hardware.

3. The Simpsons Road Rage — best for arcade driving
Road Rage is the pick when you want to drive rather than settle into a longer adventure. It shares the appeal of Springfield vehicles with Hit & Run, but its tighter arcade-driving focus makes it the more direct option for shorter, score-and-race-style play rather than exploration.

4. The Simpsons Arcade Game — best for co-op beat-’em-up play
The 1991 arcade game offers a different kind of Simpsons session: side-scrolling beat-’em-up action suited to playing cooperatively. It is a good choice if you want a straightforward, short arcade game rather than a story-led console adventure. Its older arcade feel is part of the appeal, but it is also a much earlier design than the 2007 game.

- Shred and Grind Head To Head.
- Events will set off hidden animated gags just like you'd see in actual Simpsons episodes
- Fun and funny multiplayer driving modes for up to 4 players
The title began in arcades and received older computer and console ports. Those port histories differ; verify the specific edition and platform rather than assuming that a reference to the game means a version for your hardware.
5. Bart vs. the Space Mutants — an optional retro platformer
Bart vs. the Space Mutants is worth considering if you are specifically curious about an older 2D platform challenge. It is not a direct gameplay sequel to The Simpsons Game, and it should not be chosen for the open-world exploration, driving, or cooperative brawling offered by the other recommendations. The cited catalog material confirms the title and its place in the series chronology, but does not establish modern availability.

Are any of these games playable on current consoles?
The available platform records establish original releases, not current storefront listings, backward compatibility, or modern-console editions. Before buying or recommending a copy, identify the exact platform and regional version, then check whether you have the hardware or a verified compatible way to play it. A listing for a PlayStation 2 or original Xbox copy, for example, should not be treated as a current-console release.

For Hit & Run, revival talk has not become a confirmed release announcement. PC Gamer reported on March 14, 2026 that executive producer and showrunner Matt Selman said “Never say never.” Later August reporting described an ambiguous suggestion from Matt Groening followed immediately by Selman’s “Or not.” Taken together, those remarks leave a return possible but unannounced; no platform, remake, remaster, or release date is established. See PC Gamer’s March 2026 report.
What about The Simpsons: Tapped Out?
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a historical mention, not a current recommendation. The Wikisimpsons catalog records that the mobile game shut down on January 25, 2025; it should not be presented as playable now.
