Check each modifier’s conditions and trade-offs, then compare it with your other equipped options.
How Artifacts work
Artifacts are passive build modifiers. Remedy Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov describes them as “equippable items with passive modifiers that allow you to fine-tune your build.” You find untapped Artifacts in the world and craft them into usable items in the Gap. Remedy has not published a complete list of crafting materials or costs.
You can equip up to three Artifacts during a first playthrough. New Game Plus adds a fourth slot, creating more room to combine effects.
How to choose an Artifact
- Choose a goal. Decide whether you want to focus on survivability, combat performance, exploration, or resource economy—the categories Remedy identifies for Artifact effects.
- Read the full modifier. Check whether its benefit is always active or depends on a condition, and look for any trade-off. A conditional effect should not be treated as a constant bonus.
- Relate the effect to your play style. Remedy’s combat overview describes a loop in which melee hits restore Combat Ability resource, abilities stun enemies and open them to executions, and executions temporarily boost melee damage. If an Artifact’s actual modifier supports a part of that loop you want to emphasize, it may fit your approach. This is a way to assess the effect, not a tested or ranked build recommendation.
- Compare it with your equipped choices. In a first playthrough, an Artifact uses one of three slots. Compare its benefit, trigger, and trade-off with the item it would replace; a newly found Artifact is not automatically an upgrade.
- Review your setup when your build changes. Weapon Forms, Combat Abilities, and Talents also shape your build. An Artifact’s usefulness may change when you choose different options or pursue a different goal.
What changes in New Game Plus
Remedy says New Game Plus carries over much of what you have earned, including Artifacts, while traversal abilities remain tied to story progression. New talent nodes and the fourth Artifact slot give you more room to experiment, and the world and encounters evolve as you progress. Remedy has not identified a universally best Artifact for New Game Plus or published an item-by-item scaling analysis.

What is known about Artifact effects
Remedy’s official explanations establish the broad effect categories, the possibility of conditions and trade-offs, the find-and-craft process, and the first-playthrough and New Game Plus slot limits. They do not provide a complete catalog of named Artifacts and effects, exact crafting costs, compatibility rules, or comparative performance data. That is why a goal-based comparison is more reliable than a ranked “best Artifacts” list.
