If you missed the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder, Best Buy and Walmart were two retailers buyers could try on launch day, June 5, 2025. Best Buy announced limited walk-in stock at nearly all stores opening at midnight; Walmart was also reported as offering another chance to buy. Neither retailer promised a console at any particular location. The launch has passed, so this is a historical account—not a guide to current stock.
What Best Buy offered on launch day
In its May 29, 2025 announcement, Best Buy said nearly all of its stores would open at midnight on June 5 and that “Best Buy stores will also have a limited number of consoles, games and accessories available for walk-in customers.” That was a planned, limited walk-in opportunity, not confirmation that every store would have a console or that stock would last. What Walmart offered
The Associated Press reported ahead of launch that Walmart said customers would have another chance to buy the system on June 5, and included Walmart among retailers selling it on launch day. Why launch-day availability was uncertain
The preorder rush had already brought availability problems: AP reported Walmart preorders sold out quickly and described listings becoming unavailable at Target and Best Buy. Those reports indicate rapid sellouts, not exact quantities of stock. AP’s April 24, 2025 report
