Which Switch 2 game was announced at $79.99?
Nintendo of America said Mario Kart World was available in the United States for a suggested retail price of $79.99 on June 5, 2025, the Switch 2 launch day. Nintendo listed availability in stores, on Nintendo eShop and at Nintendo.com. Nintendo’s launch announcement is the basis for the $79.99 figure.
“Suggested retail price” is the key qualification: the announcement states Nintendo’s U.S. MSRP at launch, not a current price at every retailer. A retailer’s later listing or sale price can differ, and prices in other countries use different currencies and may not match the U.S. figure.
Does every Switch 2 game cost $80?
No. The $79.99 announcement applies to one named game, Mario Kart World. It does not establish a price for the full Switch 2 library. For a useful comparison, check the same title and edition in the same region, compare like-for-like formats, and distinguish the published MSRP from a retailer’s price on the date you check.

What was the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle price?
Nintendo also announced a U.S. Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle at a suggested retail price of $499.99. The bundle included a digital version of the game. This was Nintendo’s announced launch price in 2025, not confirmation of a current offer or of a bundle containing a physical copy.
Can digital and physical Switch 2 games have different prices?
Yes, depending on the title and release period. Nintendo Support says that beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 have an MSRP different from their physical versions. The notice does not set one universal price for all games. It also does not retroactively change the announced launch MSRP for Mario Kart World. For a current comparison, identify the title, region, edition and format, then check the prices for the date you are buying. Nintendo’s pricing support notice explains the stated policy.

Does a physical Switch 2 card always contain the whole game?
No. Some releases use a Game-Key Card: Nintendo says you must download the game, then insert the card to start it. A physical card purchase therefore does not always mean the game data is stored on the card. Check the packaging or product listing to confirm the format before buying.
