Xbox announced mobile testing for Copilot for Gaming on May 28, 2025, in the Xbox mobile app for iOS and Android. The beta was presented as a second-screen assistant for game questions, help when players get stuck, Xbox activity queries, and game recommendations—not as a replacement for playing on a console or PC. Xbox Wire’s announcement documents that initial test; a later rollout plan added features, but current mobile availability is not established by the sources cited here.

What the first mobile beta was designed to do

In its May 28, 2025 announcement, Xbox described Copilot for Gaming as a companion accessed through the Xbox mobile app. The phone served as a second screen, so players could seek information without shifting their attention away from the main gameplay display.

  • Ask questions about games, including the game currently being played.
  • Get help when stuck.
  • Ask about Xbox account activity, including play history and achievements.
  • Get recommendations for what to play next.

Xbox said responses could link to web information and could draw on account, play-history, and achievement information. The announcement described intended capabilities, not measured accuracy or demonstrated gameplay outcomes.

How the May test differed from Xbox’s later rollout plan

Xbox’s September 18, 2025 post used the name Gaming Copilot (Beta) and described a broader rollout plan with additional features. These were announcements from different points in the rollout, not proof that every later feature reached every mobile user.

May 28, 2025 Copilot for Gaming (Beta) Testing in the Xbox mobile app on iOS and Android; existing beta users could provide feedback. Google Play was named as the route for Android beta users. Game questions and help, Xbox activity information, and recommendations; designed as a second-screen companion.
September 18, 2025 Gaming Copilot (Beta) Planned rollout first on PC Game Bar, followed by the Xbox mobile app in October. The post described support for adults aged 18 and older in supported regions other than mainland China. Voice Mode and deeper in-game assistance, including help informed by what was happening on the player’s screen.

The September post also encouraged players to ask about their current screen, recommendations, achievements, or play history. Its age and regional details are dated rollout terms, not a verified current eligibility list. Xbox Wire’s September announcement sets out that plan.

Can Copilot help when you get stuck or recommend a game?

Those were among the purposes Xbox gave for the beta: players could ask for help with a game and request ideas about what to play next. The later announcement described more context-aware assistance, including help related to the game screen. These descriptions establish what Xbox said the assistant was intended to offer; they do not establish how reliably it answered, how players received it, or whether it improved game performance.

Is Copilot for Gaming still available on mobile?

The official Xbox announcements cited here establish a 2025 testing start and a later planned rollout, but they do not verify the feature’s present mobile status. A May 5, 2026 Tom’s Guide report described a planned wind-down of Copilot on mobile; that secondary report does not, by itself, establish whether or when the change took effect. Treat availability as unresolved rather than assuming the beta can still be joined.

What Xbox said about the early test

Taylor O’Malley, Xbox Principal Program Manager, framed the May beta as an opportunity to gather feedback: “We’re sharing features like this early and often to ensure the products we develop are aligned with your needs and preferences.” That statement describes Xbox’s feedback-seeking approach; it is not evidence of user satisfaction or measured results.
