Link your accounts, join a Discord voice channel from the Xbox guide, and choose Stream your game. The feature is not a standalone Xbox app, and streaming is separate from watching a friend’s Discord stream on your console.
What you need to stream from Xbox to Discord
- An Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One with the console software updated.
- Linked Xbox and Discord accounts. Discord’s announcement says people who already linked their accounts for Discord voice on Xbox do not need to link them again to stream.
- A Discord server voice channel, or an active DM or group DM call transferred to Xbox.
- Xbox privacy settings that allow streaming. Child accounts cannot stream to Discord.
Discord’s feature announcement made Xbox streaming available on Series X|S and Xbox One on September 6, 2023. Discord works through account linking and console integration; it is not a separate app to install on Xbox. See Discord’s feature announcement and its Xbox Connection FAQ.
How to start streaming an Xbox game to a Discord server
- On Discord, open User Settings > Connections and link your Xbox account if it is not already connected.
- On Xbox, press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Choose Parties & chats, then Discord.
- Select the server and voice channel you want to join.
- Choose Stream your game. If you are prompted to start, select Start stream.
Discord’s original instructions are in its September 2023 announcement. Available controls and quality options can depend on your account and console.
Stream to a Discord DM or group DM
For a direct-message call rather than a server channel, join the DM or group DM call from Discord on desktop or mobile, then transfer the call to Xbox using Transfer to Xbox. Once the call is on the console, start sharing the game with Stream your game. This is a transfer of the voice call to Xbox, not a way to stream directly from the Discord mobile or desktop app.

Stream quality: resolution and frame rate
Discord Support says Nitro subscribers can stream at up to 1080p. Its stated maximum frame rate depends on the Xbox model:

These are the limits Discord Support lists for Nitro streaming, not a guarantee that every game, connection, or session will sustain them. The FAQ does not state a universal maximum for non-Nitro accounts; check the options shown in your current console interface rather than assuming a specific free-tier cap. What appears in the stream—and what does not
The stream shares the game’s video and audio. It does not share other Xbox apps or services. If you switch away from the streamed game or close it, the stream pauses. Discord Support describes these limits in its Xbox Connection FAQ.
Discord voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot run together
You cannot remain in Xbox Party Chat while using Discord voice on Xbox or streaming a game from the console to Discord. If you want to use Discord for the stream’s voice channel, leave Party Chat and join the Discord call through the Xbox guide.

Privacy settings and troubleshooting
If Discord is missing from the guide, the stream option is absent, or setup fails, check the following:
- Confirm your Xbox and Discord accounts are connected.
- Install available Xbox system updates.
- Check that Xbox privacy settings permit streaming; child accounts are not eligible to stream.
- If the feature still does not work, follow the Xbox Support troubleshooting route referenced by Discord’s FAQ. These checks may identify common setup issues but do not guarantee a fix for every problem.
How to watch a Discord friend’s stream on Xbox
Watching someone else’s Discord stream on Xbox is a separate feature from broadcasting your Xbox game to Discord. Join the relevant call, open the call’s member list in the Xbox guide, and choose Watch Stream. Discord Support lists 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1440p as supported incoming resolutions on Xbox; that is a list of supported viewing resolutions, not a promise that every stream will be available at each one. Discord introduced the viewing integration in its July 31, 2024 announcement.
