Mario Kart World launched in the U.S. at Nintendo’s suggested retail price of $79.99—roughly $80. That price applies to this game, not every Nintendo Switch 2 title: Nintendo’s April 2025 U.S. list priced Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99. Prices also depend on format, seller and date, so check the listing for the specific game you want.
Why is Mario Kart World $80?
Nintendo announced Mario Kart World at a U.S. suggested retail price of $79.99 for both physical and digital copies at launch in June 2025. That is the basis for calling it an $80 game. Nintendo’s announcement gave the price but did not provide a detailed, title-specific explanation for setting it at that amount. Nintendo’s June 5, 2025 launch announcement lists the game and its launch pricing.
Nintendo later said that, beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Switch 2 would have a different MSRP from their physical editions. Its support page says the change reflects different costs of producing and distributing each format and gives players more choice. That later format-pricing policy should not be treated as Nintendo’s explanation for Mario Kart World’s 2025 launch price. Nintendo Support’s pricing information describes the policy.
Are all Switch 2 games $80?
No. The $79.99 figure is specific to Mario Kart World’s U.S. launch MSRP. Nintendo’s April 2025 U.S. pricing notice listed Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99, showing that Switch 2 game prices are not all the same. Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 notice gives those launch-era prices.

From May 2026, the MSRP for a new Nintendo-published digital game exclusive to Switch 2 can differ from the physical edition. Nintendo said this policy would begin with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Retailers set their own prices, so the amount charged can also vary by seller. Compare the exact title, format and retailer listing rather than assuming one price applies to the whole library.

How to check what a Switch 2 game costs
- Identify the exact game. Do not use Mario Kart World’s price as a stand-in for every Switch 2 release.
- Compare formats. Check whether the listing is for a physical copy or a digital copy; Nintendo’s May 2026 policy allows different MSRPs for qualifying new digital exclusives.
- Check the seller and date. Nintendo says retailers set their own prices, so confirm the amount at the store where you plan to buy.
- For a console purchase, compare the full totals. Use the current system price and the current game price, and verify what a bundle includes before deciding whether it costs less.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
