It is a historical implementation, not a currently verified setup guide.
How the PHP building workflow works
The design splits the work between two parts: JavaScript produces a structure as block coordinates, and PHP listens for a player’s build request and tells the server where to place those blocks. It is not presented as a native Minecraft Java mod; it automates a standalone server through its log and RCON interface.
- Keep a PHP process running. The tutorial uses AMPHP’s event loop and file library to check the server log repeatedly, rather than relying on a sleeping busy loop.
- Watch for chat commands. Its example tracks the log file’s modification time, reads new content, and searches for lines containing the marker
> >. It remembers previously handled lines to avoid processing the same command again. - Create a blueprint. A JavaScript 3D builder returns an array of x, y, and z coordinates. Pitt’s sample blueprint consists of dirt blocks; the tutorial describes extending the builder to support more block types and configurations.
- Send placement commands. The PHP code connects to the server through RCON, extracts coordinates from a chat command beginning with
build, offsets the blueprint coordinates, and sends/setblockcommands to place blocks.
The example places blocks individually and includes a delay between placements. Its 500-millisecond polling interval and half-second block delay are example values from the tutorial, not performance guarantees or current recommended settings.
What the tutorial does—and does not—establish
The article, “Modding Minecraft with PHP – Buildings from Code!”, was published October 18, 2016, and its page lists an update on November 13, 2024. Pitt says the PHP examples were tested with PHP 7.0 and the JavaScript portions in the then-latest Chrome. Those historical tests do not establish compatibility with current PHP, AMPHP, Chrome, or Minecraft server versions.

The tutorial demonstrates enabling RCON in server.properties, but its package commands, APIs, and server settings should be treated as examples from that article—not as verified current installation instructions. Check the documentation for the specific PHP libraries and server version you intend to use before adapting the approach.
When this approach is useful
This design is relevant if you want to generate a build as coordinates and automate block placement on a server you control. Its central idea is a pipeline: a blueprint supplies positions, a PHP process recognizes a chat request, and RCON carries commands to the server. The tutorial focuses on that workflow rather than comparing it with plugins, other modding systems, or alternative command transports.
