Sony has published a patent application describing how a video game controller could relay payment-method information to a console. It does not establish that a current PS5 DualSense can read credit cards, or that Sony plans to release a controller with this capability.
What Sony’s patent application describes
The application, titled “Video Game Controller-Driven Information Transfer,” outlines a controller detecting a nearby electronic device, emitting a signal, receiving a notification and then receiving a message containing payment-method information for a player. In response to an event at the console, the controller forwards that information to the console.
Sony’s application says: “Techniques disclosed herein pertain to improving electronic devices such as video game consoles using video game controller-driven information transfer.” This is a description of a proposed information-transfer technique, not an announcement of a payment product.
How might the controller detect a nearby device?
Dependent claims identify several possible proximity-detection mechanisms. They do not, by themselves, establish what payment hardware a retail controller would contain or how a payment would be authorized.

- NFC: mentioned as one possible way to detect a nearby device.
- Bluetooth: also listed as a possible detection mechanism.
- Physical contact: the claims include contact as another possibility.
The application does not establish that a payment can be completed without additional authentication, nor does it specify proven compatibility with a particular credit card, bank, or payment-processing service.
Can a PS5 controller read a credit card?
The published application is not evidence that an ordinary current DualSense can read a credit card. It describes a concept for transferring payment-method information through a controller to a console; the reviewed record does not confirm that the proposed components exist in retail hardware.

Reports note that the patent illustrations resemble a DualSense controller. That is an observation about the drawings, not confirmation that Sony will add the described feature to the current PS5 controller or a future model.
