Short answer: Sober is an unofficial, closed-source, experimental way to run the Android version of Roblox on Linux; Roblox does not support it. Sober’s developers say ordinary intended use is very rarely moderated, but that is not a Roblox guarantee, and Roblox may block Sober clients from its services. Privacy settings are documented, but the available information is not an independent audit. Whether the risk is acceptable depends on how much you rely on your Roblox account and whether your system and the experience you want to play are currently compatible.
Is Sober official or supported by Roblox?
No. Sober is an unofficial Linux runtime that runs the Android Roblox client in a specialized environment and bridges it to Linux; it is not the Windows Roblox client running through Wine. Flathub says Sober is not affiliated with Roblox and describes it as a research project to use at your own risk. The project calls it experimental and closed-source, says Roblox does not support it, and warns it may be discontinued. See the Flathub listing and the Sober project site.
Roblox not officially supporting Linux is not the same as Roblox endorsing Sober or guaranteeing that it will work. An surfaced Roblox Developer Forum statement says Roblox does not officially support Linux while not intentionally seeking to break it; it should not be read as approval of this third-party client. Can you get banned or lose access for using Sober?
No source establishes that an account is guaranteed safe. Sober’s FAQ says users are “very rarely moderated” for ordinary intended use, but that is the maintainers’ account of user outcomes, not a promise from Roblox. The same FAQ says Roblox may prevent Sober clients from using its services at any time. That creates two distinct uncertainties: moderation of an account and the ability to connect or use Roblox services with this client. Neither is guaranteed by the project. Sober FAQ.

If your account contains purchases, valuable items, or access you cannot afford to lose, weigh those consequences before signing in through an unsupported client. The sources do not provide an independently verified ban rate or a way to calculate your personal likelihood of moderation.
Can anti-cheat or integrity checks stop Sober from joining a game?
Yes. Sober’s troubleshooting documentation describes Android Remote Attestation (ARA) checks that can prevent access to individual experiences. The page reported that its listed examples had ARA disabled as of 2026-08-20, while warning the checks could be re-enabled without notice. That dated status is not a lasting compatibility promise: check the Sober troubleshooting page for the current situation.

Do not try to bypass an attestation check. Sober’s own documentation warns that doing so could risk violating Roblox or Google terms and could put Sober at risk of a Roblox ban. If a check blocks an experience, treat it as a compatibility or access limitation rather than an invitation to evade the check.
What privacy information is available?
Flathub says ads and telemetry are disabled by default. Sober’s configuration reference documents optional Discord Rich Presence settings, both off by default: one can share the current game with Discord, and another can let contacts join from a profile. It also documents an experimental option to use libsecret to store the session cookie, which is off by default. Review those choices in the Sober configuration reference before enabling them.

These disclosures do not establish that Sober has undergone an independent privacy audit. Because the project is closed-source, readers cannot inspect its source code to independently verify its behavior. The documented default settings reduce certain forms of sharing, but they do not amount to a comprehensive privacy guarantee.

The project’s installation page lists these minimum requirements: Linux kernel 5.11 or newer, an x86-64/AMD64 processor with SSE4.1, and OpenGL ES 3.0. It recommends SSE4.2 and Vulkan 1.1; ARM devices are listed as unsupported. Requirements can change, so confirm them on the live Sober installation page before installing.

Meeting the system requirements does not ensure every Roblox experience will work. Sober’s Android runtime, Roblox service access, and experience-specific attestation checks can each affect availability.
Should you use Sober?
Sober may suit a Linux user who understands they are relying on an unofficial, experimental client and accepts possible service-access, compatibility, and account uncertainty. Avoid relying on it if official Roblox support or strong assurance about account outcomes and independently verified privacy are essential to you. The project distributes Sober through Flathub; the listing showed Sober 1.8.0 and Roblox 2.741.1061 on 2026-10-05, but versions change, so use the live listing rather than treating those numbers as current indefinitely.
