These approaches differ in what they run: Cordial and Waydroid use Roblox’s Android build, while a VM uses Roblox for Windows. Is Cordial a good Sober alternative?
Cordial is the closest match if you want a dedicated Linux runtime for Roblox Player rather than a general Android environment or a Windows VM. Its maintainers describe it as experimental software that runs the Android build directly on Linux. The project documentation lists sign-in, keyboard and mouse input, audio, voice chat, fullscreen, and joining public and private servers among its working features. Those are project-reported capabilities, not independently verified results.
The project documents Linux x86-64 support and says aarch64 support is new and untested on real ARM64 hardware. It offers Flatpak and platform-package distribution options. Cordial requires a Roblox Android build; use the project’s current instructions for obtaining or reusing one rather than relying on APKs from untrusted download sites. Requirements and compatibility can change, so consult the Cordial project documentation before installing.

When does Waydroid make sense?
Waydroid is the Android-environment route: it lets Linux users run the mobile version of Roblox rather than the Windows desktop client. That distinction matters if you play experiences designed only for desktop, since the VinegarHQ guidance says those are unavailable through this route. Compatibility also depends on the system, so check current Waydroid and VinegarHQ guidance before investing time in setup.
Can a Windows virtual machine run Roblox?
A Windows VM is another route listed by VinegarHQ, but it is not a one-click substitute for a native Linux client. It adds Windows and virtual-machine setup, and graphics performance or compatibility may hinge on configuration such as GPU passthrough. Consider it only if you are comfortable troubleshooting virtualization; the documentation does not establish it as a guaranteed solution.

Does Vinegar run Roblox Player?
No. Vinegar is a Linux bootstrapper for Roblox Studio, not an alternative for playing Roblox Player. If your goal is creating experiences rather than joining them, the Vinegar installation documentation lists an x86-64/AMD64 processor, 3 GB RAM, and graphics capable of OpenGL 4.4 as baseline requirements, with higher recommendations. Those are Studio-through-Vinegar requirements; they do not apply to Sober, Cordial, or Roblox Player.
What should you check before choosing?
- Choose by client: Cordial, Waydroid, and Windows virtualization are documented routes for Roblox Player; Vinegar is for Studio.
- Check the experience: Waydroid uses the mobile version, so desktop-only experiences are out of reach through that route.
- Match the route to your system: Cordial documents x86-64 and describes ARM64 support as new and untested on real hardware; Waydroid compatibility can vary; a VM adds configuration demands.
- Read current project instructions: Roblox and third-party projects change. Their documentation describes project claims and setup, not independent proof of performance, long-term stability, or Roblox approval.
How does Sober fit into the choice?
Sober remains one Linux route for Roblox Player, but its publisher describes it as experimental and says Roblox does not support it; the publisher also warns it may be discontinued. Its current documentation lists Linux kernel 5.11 or newer, an x86-64/AMD64 CPU with SSE4.1, and OpenGL ES 3.0 capability. SSE4.2 and Vulkan 1.1 are recommended; the documentation says SSE4.2 can be emulated on a processor that only supports SSE4.1, with a performance impact. There is no documented basis here for ranking these options by speed or reliability. Treat them as unofficial workarounds, and expect compatibility to depend on project updates, Roblox changes, and your setup.
