Escape from Tarkov’s Patch 1.2.0.0 adds a new way for beginners to play alongside veterans, but the official notes do not show that it measurably improves survival or progression. Its EXFIL Brothers Program pairs new players with experienced ones and gives both a 5% XP bonus for raiding together. Separate changes adjust PvE bot behavior, while PvE Prestige changes affect long-term progression rather than beginner assistance.
What does the update add for new players?
Patch 1.2.0.0 introduces the EXFIL Brothers Program. It pairs an experienced player, called an Operator, with a newer player, called a Candidate. Battlestate Games says the Candidate rewards are designed to make it easier for new players to get into the game.
Playing together earns an XP bonus
When an Operator and Candidate raid together, both receive a 5% XP bonus. The bonus is tied to playing together; it is not described as a general XP increase for solo PvE play.
Other rewards depend on progression and edition
The program also offers rewards tied to Candidate progression or game edition. The official announcement does not provide enough detail to treat those rewards as identical for every pair, so check the in-game program details for the rewards that apply to your account.

Do the PvE changes make raids easier?
They change bot relationships and aggression, but not in one uniformly easier direction. In the patch notes, Battlestate Games says USEC and BEAR PMC bots are significantly more likely to team up and remain non-hostile toward each other. Some PMC bots can also remain neutral toward a PMC player until approached or attacked.
How PMC bots interact with Scavs and bosses
- PMC bots will not attack player Scavs first unless approached or attacked.
- PMC bots are more likely to initiate combat with Scavs and bosses.
- The chance that PMC bots remain neutral toward Scav bots has been reduced.
These are encounter-specific changes, not a promise that PvE combat is easier in every situation. Your faction, who approaches whom, and which enemies are present can change how an encounter unfolds.

How is PvE Prestige different from beginner support?
Patch 1.2.0.0 also describes six PvE Prestige levels. This is a separate progression feature, not part of the EXFIL Brothers pairing system. The first PvE Prestige level has lower requirements than its PvP counterpart. Prestiging resets progression only in the PvE Zone, and some gear, skills, and weapon mastery can be retained, up to 50%, according to Battlestate Games.

For a beginner, the clearest practical help is an experienced teammate and the bonus attached to playing together. Battlestate Games’ official notes describe the intended support, but do not report player data showing better retention, survival rates, or progression speed as a result.

Where to check access and current rules
Edition eligibility and access terms can change. Battlestate Games previously announced persistent-progression PvE co-op for Edge of Darkness Edition owners, with a PvE Zone button in the main menu, but that historical announcement is not sufficient to establish current eligibility. Check the current official game and PvE Zone access terms before buying or assuming a particular edition includes access.
