Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action movie set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED named as producers. It is a project in development, not a greenlit production. The reporting does not confirm a writer, director, cast, production start, or release date, so there is no movie to watch yet and no date to plan around.
What the report establishes
- The project: Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
- The producers: Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD PROJEKT RED are named as producers.
- The source of the report: The details come from same-day Consequence coverage relaying a Deadline report. They do not come from a primary announcement by Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED.
What has not been announced
Coverage of the project does not establish any of the following:
- Plot and characters: No story premise has been described, and no characters have been named.
- Cast: No actors have been confirmed. Keanu Reeves, who voices and plays Johnny Silverhand in the game, is not confirmed for the film, and the reporting does not say whether he would return. Treat any casting claim about familiar game characters as speculation until a studio or CD PROJEKT RED confirms it.
- Writer and director: Neither has been named in the reporting.
- Filming and release: No shooting schedule, production start, or release date has been reported.
No on-the-record quote from a named person involved in the Paramount project was found in the coverage. Any description of the film’s direction should be read as the reporter’s account, not the studio’s.
How this differs from the 2023 Anonymous Content project
CD PROJEKT RED has also run a separate live-action effort. On October 5, 2023, it announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content. The announcement described an early-stage project that was looking for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. It named Anonymous Content producers and said the project would collaborate with the game’s creative team.

The two announcements differ in who is named, when they were made, and how far along they are:
| Detail | Paramount report | Anonymous Content announcement (October 5, 2023) |
|---|---|---|
| Announcing or reporting party | Reported by Deadline, relayed by Consequence; not a primary announcement | Official CD PROJEKT RED release |
| Named partners | Paramount Pictures, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, CD PROJEKT RED (as producers) | Anonymous Content (producers named), CD PROJEKT RED’s creative team |
| Format | Live-action film | Live-action project |
| Story | Not stated | A brand-new story set in the Cyberpunk 2077 world |
| Development stage | In development; no greenlight reported | Early development; searching for a screenwriter |
| Writer or director | Not stated | Writer not yet chosen at announcement |
| Release date | Not stated | Not stated |
| Relationship to the other project | Not established in available sources | Not established in available sources |
CD PROJEKT RED’s 2023 wording on the earlier project is: “The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.” That is a description of the 2023 project only. It does not confirm the status of the Paramount film.

These are game sales figures reported by the publisher. They show the size of the audience for the source material. They are not box office, streaming, or other film performance data, and they say nothing about whether the film will be made.
The 2023 announcement also named a novel, Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE, and the Gangs of Night City board game, which was then in production. These are broader franchise products. They are not confirmed movie merchandise.

Coverage of a film like this typically moves through stages. The following would be meaningful signals that the Paramount project has advanced beyond development:
- A named writer or director, confirmed by Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED
- An announced cast, including whether any game characters or voice actors are returning
- A reported production start or filming location
- A release date or release window attached to a studio announcement
- A clear statement on whether the Paramount film and the 2023 Anonymous Content project are connected
Until one of these appears, the accurate status is that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film is in development at Paramount, with CD PROJEKT RED as a named producer.
