The setup differs for each. Native online play requires both players to own the game, while Remote Play Together lets one owner stream the game to a guest.
The Steam edition lists single-player, Online Co-op, Shared/Split Screen Co-op, and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. Absolum released on October 9, 2025.

Absolum native online co-op: setup steps
Use Absolum’s in-game online system when both players own the PC version. Finish the tutorial first; the online option is accessed from the hub rather than directly from the title screen.
Recommended Free Tools
- Complete the Tutorial.
- Select Start, then select Save game.
- In the hub, find the blue crystal immediately to the right of the bonfire.
- Interact with the crystal and select Play online.
- The host selects Create online game.
- The other player selects Join online game, chooses the host’s lobby, or uses Enter Game Code.
You can also invite the other player through Steam after creating the lobby. Open the Steam overlay, right-click the friend, and choose Invite to Game or the relevant invitation option. The detailed setup path is documented by PlayCo-op Game.

Do both players need to buy Absolum?
Yes, for native online co-op. Each player must own and run the game. The one-copy exception is Steam Remote Play Together, which is a separate streaming feature rather than Absolum’s normal online lobby system.
Absolum couch co-op: local split-screen play
Local co-op uses one PC and supports two players. Connect the controllers before joining, then use the correct hub interaction:
- From New Game, connect at least one controller.
- Press the controller’s A button to activate local co-op.
- Alternatively, from the hub, interact with the campfire itself.
- On the second controller, press the join button shown beneath Player 2.
The campfire and the nearby blue crystal serve different purposes. The campfire starts local play; the blue crystal opens online play. Interacting with the characters sitting around the fire will not activate Player 2. These local-join instructions come from the Absolum Steam Community discussion.
Steam Remote Play Together: play with one copy
Remote Play Together is the practical choice when only the host owns Absolum or when you want to share a local session over the internet. It streams the host’s game and sends the guest’s input back to the host PC; it does not create a separate native online lobby.

- WWII Battle Of The Bulge Action
- Solitaire
- Complexity: Low
- Next Design In The Valiant Defense Series
- Plays in 60 - 75 minutes
- The host launches Absolum.
- Start a local co-op session using the campfire and Player 2 join prompt.
- Press Shift+Tab to open the Steam overlay.
- Open the Friends List, right-click the friend, and select Remote Play Together.
Only the host needs to own or install the game. However, the guest’s progress is not automatically turned into that player’s normal single-player progression. See the relevant Steam Community guidance for the reported Remote Play flow.
Which Absolum co-op method should you use?
| Method | What you need | Where it starts |
|---|---|---|
| Native online co-op | Two players; each owns and runs the game | Hub’s blue crystal > Play online |
| Couch co-op | One PC and two controllers | New Game or the hub’s campfire |
| Remote Play Together | One owner; Steam overlay and a local co-op session | Steam overlay > Remote Play Together |
Fixes for common co-op problems
The online option is missing
Complete the tutorial, select Start, save the game, and reach the hub. Then use the blue crystal beside the bonfire. Searching the main menu for a standalone online-co-op button can send you to the wrong place.
The second local player cannot join
Interact with the campfire itself, not the nearby characters and not the blue crystal. Then look for the join prompt beneath Player 2 and press it on the second controller. If you are still at New Game, connect a controller and press A to activate local co-op.

Have the host leave the online menu, create a new lobby, and enter the online menu again. Also check that both players are logged into Steam and running the same game version. These are reported workarounds, not a guaranteed universal fix; see All Things How’s co-op guide.
Rank #3
- Faiyum is the newest game by Friedemann Friese, the award-winning designer of Power Grid and Friday. 3,900 years ago, the Faiyum basin was turned into the granary for Egypt. The players are the advisors of Pharoah Amenemhet and will compete to urbanize the oasis-like Faiyum. Faiyum is a strategic game for fans of planning games. The basic rules are simple: play your cards one by one on your personal discard stack to harvest goods, build roads, found settlements and more.
- After playing some or all of your cards, you take them back into your hand in "reverse" playing order, so playing cards in the best order is important. Newly purchased cards go directly into your hand, so the timing of getting and playing them is important. In the end, the most cunning advisor who creates the best card combinations will win Faiyum.
- For 1-5 Players. Ages 14+
- 120 minute playing time
A Steam invite or Remote Play invitation does nothing
Check that the Steam Community Overlay is enabled globally and for Absolum. Overlay problems have been reported as a cause of failed Steam invitations and Remote Play Together sessions. The overlay must be functioning for the Shift+Tab invitation route.
The connection keeps dropping
Players have reported intermittent disconnects, including cases involving people on the same home network. Those reports do not establish one confirmed cause or a universal official fix. Restarting the lobby and checking that both installations are updated are sensible first steps, but persistent failures may require waiting for a game or network-side fix.
Does Absolum support cross-platform co-op?
Steam lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer for Absolum. The available information does not establish the exact PC-to-console platform combinations or identify a current in-game cross-play toggle, so the supported platform matrix should not be assumed from the Steam label alone.
What Absolum co-op does not require
PC co-op does not require command-line syntax, console commands, or developer commands. The important distinction is choosing the right system: the blue crystal for native online play, the campfire for local play, and the Steam overlay for Remote Play Together.
